-3 doesn't reflect Matinpalo's play. Dude played his ass off but prime Lidstrom can't do much if McDavid or MacKinnon are on.

He's 26, and this tournament was probably a great experience for him and his development as an NHL defender. Looking forward to seeing him play solid D for us on that 3rd pairing.

IMO if Canada wants to beat the USA we gotta not get pulled into the tit-for tat theatrics from the last meeting. Don't retaliate and let em take penalties. Make em pay on the PP and keep them off their rhythm.
100% agree.

USA is very skilled, but we have slightly more in our forward core. Hope we focus on scoring and not worrying about the Tkachuks and Miller tryna fight.

This going to be a great final game. If you arent looking forward to this, then to steal Elliotte's line, you have no soul. Apparently could hardly sell tickets for this a little while ago. Now seats are 4 figures. Should be a beauty

I mean playing on Team North America would be one of the most prestigious teams you could ever make, same with Team Europe.

This is an NHL tournament and the maximum amount of elite NHL talent should be playing imo. And the games should be as competitive as possible.

And if team Canada or team USA is going hard you think team Europe would just lay down and take it? They'd want to play spoiler just as bad and actually have a chance.

Right now team Finland is going up against 4 world class lines and their best d is Lindell.
I would still prefer to have teams from countries involved and include teams from the top tier of hockey-playing countries including: Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Czech, Slovakia, Russia and perhaps Germany and Switzerland. Yes, some would not be as competitive as others.

I would also change the timing to off-season because this latest 4 Nation tournament screwed up the NHL schedule.

Karlsson ice tilt still exists on a best on best tournament but he ain't good enough for us? Cmon.

Sanderson - Karlsson
Chabot - Zub
Kleven - Matinpalo
JBD

Now you're talking, wonder if the Pens would take Jensen, Perron and Amadio back for Karlsson. They wouldn't save next season but Jensen and Perron contracts expire after so they would save big time in Karlsson's final year. Maybe we could pry out a few picks as well. Don't get me wrong, I like Jensen but I'm thinking 5v5 production here. He has the 22nd most ESP since 2022-23 and he's a D-man (only 3 ESP less than Stutzle). Sanderson is elite so he'd help EK game a lot. The mobility on that pairing would be crazy.

US have some incredible skaters and so smart defensively. But all this stupid toughness stuff actually hurt themselves more than others, they are literally shooting themselves in the foot with it. If I was Canada, I would trick them into playing "that game" and let my stars handle the hockey part while they are too busy "toughing it up"

The 2 back to back checks Brady threw early vs Sweden were perfect, you don't need to do much more than that. Play hockey for CS

Brady Tkachuk in US jersey scares me. Either he injures someone on Team Canada, or he gets injured. From an opposing team perspective, I can feel the intimidation when he is one ice.

One of a kind, we are lucky to have Brady Tkachuk as a Senator.

If Brady misses extended time due to this injury I'll take back all the good things I've said about the tourney

This one time only Phoney gimmicky tournament was going to produce injuries to some of the participants… just like it happened in previous Olympics with NHL participation

Never been a fan of chopping up the NHL schedule at its most crucial time in the schedule, forcing compression of the schedule .

The Olympic football tournament, does not force all football leagues to shutdown and is for U-23 players with a few over-age exceptions, clubs are required to release players for the competition…. But to get the best on best for hockey, they could hold it in the summer games, and not impact the NHL season.

Heard that the Canada vs Finland game, there was some booing of the Canadain national anthem…. Sad to see Americans sinking to that low level.

Wonder what happens on Thursday in Boston…. Would not advise anyone to boo either anthem

I’d advise everyone to boo as much as they want

It's been a bit of a coming out party for Tkachuk.

Good thing we have him under contract for awhile.

I didn't watch us/Sweden. How was Sanderson?
Well I’m biased obviously but I thought he played really well. No one was on Werenski’s level but after that I think he was just as good the rest. Hit a crossbar, made a nice play to hold the puck at the Blueline and get it to Werenski, so he created offensively.

I thought most of the other D had okay nights but nothing special. Slavin and Faber were much better against Canada.

The US is so stacked at D that if everyone is healthy, he still might not make the Olympic team next year.

Yeah they are crazy impressive.

Speaking of, McAvoy has been ruled out for Thursday so Sanderson will get to play (assuming he gets played over the replacement, although maybe they want a RD)

And Brady is also confirmed to be playing:

Sandy will be in for the final. Too bad about McAoy he strepped it up against Canada. The T Bros will do everything to go...
Matthews ? Canada should engage them early. Take no prisoners

Not stoked to see Brady getting hurt in in the tournament. Great to see he's got that fire, but like....save some for the rest of our season. We got some hay to make
so, not retaliating is probably good generic advice, but I didn't see that in this game.

There were three fights in the game's first 9 seconds. U.S.A took the extra penalty on the (third?) fight. Crosby took a penalty later and I think it was Guentzel who took the other minor for the U.S. There were no penalties in either the 2nd or 3rd period at all.

I suppose Canada could've declined the fights, but that would have taken the fun out of the start of the game and I don't think it made one bit of difference to the result.

I think it's more about not letting them dictate the temp
Don't indulge them

We fight when we wanna fight.
Even baiting them would be great.

Anything to get our PP on the ice
