Good game regardless. I didn't expect much from this tournament but its actually been good and by far a better break than the usual allstar garbage.

It's good hockey and it's drawing TV ratings.
Personally, I think it's a conspiracy to boost HRR and push out the small market teams from competing.

Canada is going to beat Finland in OT, and then the US will "lose" to Sweden in regulation.
It was literally the first best-on-best game between these two teams of this generation. The last one was in the semi-final of 2014 Olympics 11 years ago.
Rematch in the Final's gonna be good, just need to beat Finns in regulation.
Well, you could tell by the intensity of the game that the players cared.

Curious, are Hagel and Cirelli really two of the top 12 forwards in this country? Don’t really follow TB during the season. Also Jarvis and Bennett (although Bennett played his role well tonight).
Hopefully Bedard and Celebrini take steps forward next season, no reason not to have them on the olympic team.

Cirelli is a great two way guy and Hagel is 15th in league scoring.
Jarvis and Bennett are pretty questionable picks. Bennett sucks at almost every aspect of the game except for checking. Jarvis isn't bad but there's better scorers than him.
Robert Thomas, Nick Suzuki, Scheifele would be such better fits for the roster.

Worried that when choosing the team they leaned too much into a "balanced" approach.

In a short tourney I am sure they were hoping that the chemistry they had would be helpful. They were good against the US.
I agree that Scheifele should be on the team. I also think Bedard should be there, but can understand his ommission.
By far the biggest loss is having Pieterangelo back out and then losing Theodore. That pairing would be have been rock solid.

They do this at the world juniors too it’s incredibly frustrating. Not to mention the best Canadian goaltender in the league is sitting at home right now.

Team Canada needs to stop trying to Galaxy Brain the roster. It's very simple for international tournaments - Bring the top skilled players. Skilled players can figure out how to PK. Stop bringing Cirelli/Jarvis/Bennett types to Team Canada, solid players for their individual teams in the NHL, but shouldn't be on Team Canada.
Our goaltending also looks the worst it ever has in my entire lifetime. Binnington starting for Canada? Awful. Logan Thompson not being on this roster is unforgivable.

The US has largely caught up to Canada. I think their top end talent is still a notch below ours, but their depth is just as good and I like their D better. And obviously their goaltending is light years ahead.
I think a lot of games between the two countries as we move forward are really just gonna be a coin toss.
It was a good game though. I still think it means way more to the players than it does to me which is fine. The fact that it’s up there with the SCF for them is wild… I was over the loss 20 seconds after it happened. A Sens playoff game would be 100x more important to me.
