I think Murray Pam might be reaching a bit to say the US D definitively got better by swapping McAvoy out for Sanderson, but I am glad Sandy is getting to play, hopefully he shows the team he should have been in all along (albeit maybe in place of Hanifin rather than McAvoy).
It will be interesting to see Sanderson's impact playing with the best, I think the only thing McAvoy has on Sanderson is physical play.

I certainly think Sanderson has the potential to be a better player than McAvoy (which is very high praise imo), I just don't know if I'm ready to say he already is.

I think we have to admit that Canada isn't a lock for gold/silver in international play anymore. We can talk all we want about roster construction or bad bounces and all that....but we've really fallen behind. Even our current crop of superstars are a bit one-dimensional and not the well rounded "elite in all areas" types of players we had 15 years ago.

This is what happens when hockey becomes too much of an economic class game and playing to nepotism and padding HC coffers than improving the sport as a whole.
The US has been better at hockey than Canada for a good while now.

What we are seeing is the result, not the beginning.

A real shame on the timing, would be nice to win against Trusk.

My first time catching one of these live, how long after the alleged start time can this actually be expected to start?

McAvoy is better than Sanderson in every aspect except his skating. This isn't good for Canada, McDavid was skating circles around McAvoy last night and that'll be harder to do against Sandman

Goaltending was a major difference.

Binnington let in two goals through him that should have been stopped.

Helly is the best goalie in the league right now, so that was major advantage.

I also feel like our stars don’t play well together, and we barely played the bottom six lines at all to our detriment as they were playing well, and we were tiring out our stars.

To me it looked like the US played a solid NHL game by an excellent team, while we had two top line of stars trying to do everything themselves.

We got shut down by the US because the guys who played most of the game don’t play like units, and aren’t really willing to grind out goals like you have to in the playoffs.

Disappointing game.
I also think that some roster decisions were not optimal.

The depth of Finland team is really lacking. Team Europe would make much more sense
Team Europe is a gimmick.

Imagine how much you would care about a team if it was team North America. It just becomes an all star game at that point. The purpose for teams like Germany, and Czechia etc is to motivate the next gen of hockey players in those regions despite them having a really small chance to win.

I mean playing on Team North America would be one of the most prestigious teams you could ever make, same with Team Europe.

This is an NHL tournament and the maximum amount of elite NHL talent should be playing imo. And the games should be as competitive as possible.

And if team Canada or team USA is going hard you think team Europe would just lay down and take it? They'd want to play spoiler just as bad and actually have a chance.

Right now team Finland is going up against 4 world class lines and their best d is Lindell.
