Trump vs Trudeau, the threat of sanctions, the booing of the national anthem aligned at the perfect time for the NHL to have a Canada/USA matchup. The players fed off the media ramping up these stories and it paid off bigly. Players came to play and showed why the sport is so great.

I’m not trying to get into a political debate but the outside noise definitely helped this matchup. Without it NHL fans would have enjoyed a solid game, with them brought a whole new audience.
Yup; if the first nine minutes of the US-Canada game wasn’t interesting to you, I’m not sure what to tell you. That was a great opening period. I expect Thursday will be a great game too

With Kreider scoring tonight I wonder if he goes in for Nelson in the final. I hope not but Nelson has been kind of luke warm and had 2 good looks at the net. He is also playing wing not center.

The missed breakaway chance to tie the game sums up Nelson’s career with the Isles to date perfectly. Really good player, does lots of things right - but never seems to come up clutch in those key moments.

I am Canadian and just wanted to let yall know I love you guys.

I don't condone booing any anthem, but uh, yeah, a lot of us Maple Syrupers are a bit miffed.

I am not exactly a fan of what is happening in the world, but I will always recognize the comradery and friendship that our nations have shared.

Hugs.

My family spans the border. Anyone who is excited by this crap should give their head a shake.

And I don't feel the need to boo anthems, but I'm not going to act indignant when people boo an anthem of a country led by a person who jokes about conquering them. Like, wtf do we expect? A person would have to be pretty stupid to get fired up about that.

Some people need things to be outraged over. I don’t know why.

If this becomes a regular, or semi-regular thing, I would have instantly bought a team USA jersey with Nelson AND the Isles logo on the sleeve or something. I don't know how the marketing works, but if they can figure out how to do that they can take my money....

Way to show your inability to actually CHECK before posting!

78 games in the playoffs with 27 goals, including SEVEN game winners. Now go back to sleep.

do you think your rudimentary stats actually demonstrate clutch performance, which is what I was referring to? Brock routinely misses breakaway chances with the chance to win or tie the game - I remember many of them very clearly. Unfortunately, the NHL does not keep or publish these stats, but many of us here can remember several of his missed breakaway chances.

As for the GWG, not all GWG are 'clutch' in the sense of coming through in a big moment - or perhaps that concept is new to you. Of Brock's playoff game winners none were in OT and only one with the game tied in the third period. 3 were not the GWG when they were scored but became GWG when the other team came back. Those are still valuable goals, obviously, but not the same as a clutch goal when the stakes are highest.

This is not to take away from Brock's value as a goal scorer, he is a repeat 30 goal scorer, and has a similar pace in the playoffs. He has had some good playoff series for the Isles, but he is not clutch in big moments; and repeatedly misses breakaway chances to win or time games at crucial moments. Sorry if that offends you.

Not all GWG are clutch, and the stats we'd need to show if he is clutch or not, are not available. But the very basic stats you found demonstrate a good but not clutch performer - which is exactly how I characterized him (now watch him score the GWG in OT tomorrow night!)

This is the most pathetic defense of your indefensible post possible. Holy smokes. You are the ONLY poster here in my many years that is denigrating Brock's playoff performances. Word salad . . . Camel La de da

Yeah it is sad. I do understand the anger, our nation's autonomy shouldn't be joked about...

But IMHO the spirit of the US anthem transcends any one president, person, or generation. I still get chills when I hear it.

So to me, the booing is misguided but (in most cases anyway) not done out of malice, moreso wounded pride.

I really do just think it is wounded pride.

Us Canadians don't have a ton of ways to vent.. so sporting events is just a causality of the current political climate. Hopefully it dies down soon. Canadian fans booing the US anthem should recognize that, at least in most cases, a few of their own team's players are Americans.

And I don't think any hockey players are responsible for economic policy.

If I were a BOS fan I'd be livid about the McAvoy injury. Supposedly he was injured against FIN, the USA team doctors (who are the Wild team doctors) gave him a shot and he played against CAN, then it turns out he has a serious injury that I guess they missed and an infection, maybe from the shot. Oy vey.

Haha, it’s clear a discussion with you is pointless, as you simply resort to childish nonsense. I’ve never denigrated Nelson, in fact I’ve defended his time on the Isles and his play on team USA noting he’s not looked out of place at all on a highly skilled team. I simply said he’s not clutch - which he’s not. I’m fine if people disagree and think he is, but I usually expect a coherent mature response, which seems beyond your abilities.

How else does somebody get an infection inside the shoulder?
Wow....

Damn. When tickets went on sale, it was $350 a seat in the nosebleeds. Now tonight they’re reselling for $1000. Could have made some play money. Though my luck, would have been Sweden and Finland in the finals, and resale at $150 now

Feel free to block me newbie

Maybe you should bring this tough guy act to the Noah Dobson main board thread where you’re getting eviscerated :sarcasm:
I'm fine with the people who criticize my disgust with an athlete putting everything behind their maximizing money regardless of how it effects the team's ability to win games.

If that's a tough guy act, so be it.

It says more about their values than mine.

Maybe that's yours too?

Or are those who take hometown discounts losers? I seem to remember a QB named Brady who did that for years. Think Dobson wants to be the highest paid defender in the league or win the amount of rings Brady did?

My criticism is simple. If a father teaches his children that seeking maximum money is the be all and end all, they've failed as a father, and I STAND BY THAT.

Tough enough for you?
