To be honest I don't think there's 12 better Canadian forwards than Nick Suzuki. He's 12th in scoring for Canadians and a few guys ahead are career year plugs like Strome, and hagel. Duchene brings nothing Nick doesn't. I'd have to see the list but Nick is one of Canada's most well-rounded forwards. He's also not a choker like guys who will probably be there like Marner. Marchand is clearly past his prime. Cirelli is worse than Nick Suzuki. Konecy is not better than Nick Suzuki.

How hyman and verhage can be discussed as extras is weird considering they aren't centers or good defensively for depth roles. Laf and bedard is even funnier.

Team Canada looks pretty underwhelming tbh. Better don't send anyone to this tournament to get hurt playing meaningless hockey.

I'm sure they figured all they needed was Gretzky. But, he was freaking old at the time. Canada was super arrogant at that time about our quality versus other countries other than the USA. Everyone was catching up quick in the 90s.

They figured they could leave whoever they wanted at home & still win.

At least that team lost to an absolutely epic performance by Hasek. It was a goaltending performance for the ages.

The 2006 team that went to Italy was just pathetic. The Todd Bertuzzi and Kris Draper picks. Ugh. They took no speed with them. Lost 2 games in preliminary round to finish 3rd in Division then lost to Russia in QF. They were awful all the way through.

The US took a terrible team too, finished 4th in their Division and lost in QF to Finland.

The ‘98 team was such a cluster**** but man what a defense

Bourque - Blake
Pronger - Macinnis
Stevens - Desjardins
Foote

With a healthy Kariya and Sakic the ‘98 team probably ends up highly revered in the annals of history but Bobby Clarke’s CTE handicapped the hell out of team chemistry

In Zamuner’s defense he redirected a great Gretzky pass for a nice goal against USA :sarcasm:

2006 is my least favourite Canadian team by far.

Suzuki not making it is a shame.
Caufield was expected. Too 1 dimensional and can be pre scouted. Although no Thompson is pretty crazy

Monty is surprising too

I'm not really interested in this format, not during the season. Would be a good primer to start the season, I don't get the point of it during a regular season? Olympic hockey, ok.. this just seems odd. The Canada Cup used to be in the fall, do we even have a rivalry with other countries without Russia in the mix now?

I did prefer the 2016 WC format too when it was played before the season

Maybe posted already.

Says he thinks Monty will be the 3rd, but I don't understand the words around 100%, so not sure if he's certain or he's not 100% certain on it.

Basically, someone who isn't terrible at French could listen that would be awesome.

Without Russia, tournament is illegitimate.

Technically, they could have added Russia as this isn't an IIHF sanctioned tournament anyway, so the NHL doesn't have to comply with their sanctions.

A Russian team would have outstanding goaltending, but not sure if they could fill out the rest of the roster with quality NHL players.

This is apparently the leaked lineup for Canada:

Right. NHL Russian players should have had their team. Awsome offence and great golatending for sure.
