I think it’s great to see actual best on best national teams face off against each other and I’m hyped about this format, although the Olympics is the ultimate scene for that when more teams can participate and an Olympic medal is as good as it gets when representing your country. If Russia wasn’t banned (they should be in)I think that Czechia would be in as well. Slovakia is a tier lower IMO (and I like watching/rooting for them when they’re not playing against Finland) wouldn’t be a serious bet for beating the other teams.

What I find stupid is the All Star games with no compete, pride or any kind of meaning where there is anything interest on display, except for the fastest skater and hardest shot competitions.

I mean we’re grasping at straws here, I agree with you that McDavid is the actual best player in the world. I was repeating talking points made in the media that Drai could be considered the MVP this year.

Regardless of the fact, Drai is either #2-3 in the world and he’s not playing. It’s not a good look for the league.

that's so true. No Drai , Ovi, Michkov, Kaprisov etc.. what a stupid look for the NHL. Make a world team at least

Looking forward to seeing Sid, Mac and Mcdavid together.
Looking forward to seeing Armia and Laine.

Won’t be glued to the TV tho.

If he brought this setup to MTL with our colours would be incredible! Such a better setup than his current one.

Interesting that they are a different brand of pads than his current setup too. I wonder if he is changing?

True, the All Star game is horrible.
 
I’ll be curious to see what Marner does. He’s consistently choked in big moments and I’d have actually left him off the lineup altogether. I realize this is probably an unpopular opinion but it’s an honest one anyway.

That being said, there’s no denying his talent and he’ll be playing with guys who have won it before. McDavid also has a way of bringing out the best in players so maybe this will work out.

I’ll also be curious to see what happens after he comes out of this tournament. We’ve seen players play on Canada and then find another gear. Maybe McDavid and Crosby teach this guy what it takes and then he’s better for it. To me, that will be the most interesting storyline of the tournament.

Second most interesting story? Canada’s goaltending situation. Is it going to be good enough? I don’t see them stealing any games but I think everyone is just hoping they don’t lose it for us.

This can't be better than the all-star game it's already boring with barely any games played.

They have to find something more competitive to present or just pause everything dead for everyone for maximum 1 week.

I'll reserve judgment re. "sham", mostly because I think the traditional All-Star game is an even bigger sham (read: pure shit), no matter the reason(s) for show-casing it. I've posted before that I'd rather see something like Rendez-Vous '87 than the trash heap that is the annual All-Star game. The four nations thingie might not live up to Rendez-Vous '87, but it’s gotta be better than the fastest skater, hardest shot, or all those other skill challenges I couldn’t give a single shit about, only to be capped off by whatever the f*** they call that "game" that only barely resembles hockey because of the ice and a puck. Now, if you want to know how I really feel about the All-Star break, just ask me:biglaugh:
 
Anyone knows a site where I could make a pool/fantasy team for the tourney? I usually use poolexpert but they don't have a 4 nations option.

All politicians are POS. I don't understand why the Russian NHL players don't have a team in this, it's pathetic. The NHL is a Mickey Mouse league.
 
I don’t get the fascination over the last year with the American defense, with or without Quinn. I’ve been a huge Slavin fan since his first NHL game, but even he never actually reached the heights of “Jaccob Slavin”. Together with Fox and Macavoy the needle is not being moved in any significant way in a “best-on-best”. Collectively I think the American d squad has 4 career playoff goals.

Meanwhile Canada can comfortably bring Makar’s regular partner and add a pairing of Theodore and Doughty, two playoff monsters. After that who really cares what the 3rd pair is, it’s not going to be Traverse-Savard.
 
I want to see a Mackinnon-McDavid-Crosby line. This is a farce if we don’t at least get to see McDavid and Crosby once together.
