HF Habs: 4 Nations Face-Off: It's Here!

Montembeault had a very good world championship a couple years back and Canada won that tournament. I think that definitely helped his case.

I think he's had some good runs this year but is currently struggling. I think the Habs overplayed him on the account of primeau being so poor. He was the most used goalie this year before dobes came up, and remains the 3rd most used goalie in the league even today.

The two guys above him are perennial workhorses in hellebyuck and vasilevsky.
He's just not up to scratch - it's his inconsistency that's the problem

no interest at all for me, and I don't hear anyone talking about it in bars, restaurants etc.. nobody cares at all from what I can tell. I know in Vancouver people are praying Hughes doesn't play and rehabs his body for a playoff push, not this stupid 2 week tournament.

I'd show a little more interest if we had a player like Cole or Nick on the team.

It’s a stupid concept. I hope it bombs

I saw a tweet yesterday that Hughes has been ruled out already.

Even not having Czechia and Slovakia, Switzerland? I mean I get they aren’t “premier” hockey countries, but they’ve all upset the big dogs at some point.

It doesn't take much to turn things upside down. Even a peripheral hockey nation can do it. Remember the scare Latvia put into Canada back in 2014 when their goalie went into God mode?

Belarus knocking out Sweden on a long shot off of Tommy salo head was another iconic moment.

Yup, exactly.

Some of these moments are historic, especially for the nations completing the upset. It doesn’t seem right we only get 4 teams.. I guess they want to keep it shorter, but still.

I dont think having 4 teams is about keeping shorter. The Olympics would have a similar timespan with more teams.

There's obviously some political stuff going on with the Russia situation. But I think there's some sort of dispute right now between iihf and nhl too. It might not be a coincidence that the teams participating in this tournament are the one that can ice a roster purely with nhl players.

That is a fair point for sure
