What momentum?

There was never any momentum to begin with.

Saturday is just going to be the NHL season resuming.

The Devils are in a good spot in the standings still.

But if you want to talk momentum anyway?

How about BRATT bringing his "momentum" off that game-winner against the U.S., and using it against Dallas this Saturday?
I’m talking about momentum of hockey in the country being relevant. Great tournament great game horrible finish just like Vancouver and all the momentum the sport had then and now just poof

Lol what? They were the better team in OT and arguably were on par with Canada. The US had a 4th line that was useless, Jack was out of position, didn't have their top dman, Matt and Brady were hurt, etc. They can easily win Gold next year in Italy The best player in the world won the tournament, that's hockey.
Youre late to the party mannn, this is the GDT. The D stands for doomer

How was that on Jack? He went to cover the point. Matthews is who abandoned the slot and left McDavid wide open.
Tonight I learned a lot of people don’t understand basic D zone coverages. I saw some chatter elsewhere blaming that on Jack and I laughed. That is 1000% on Matthews. Left the best player on the planet all alone in the slot

I literally yelped when I saw Auston leave Mcdavid live. I couldn’t believe it. If he stays there then Fox gets to the corner and the puck goes to the point where Jack will be covering. This is ALL on Auston. Just a complete brainfart

I wouldn’t tried using one of the best centers in the NHL at center
I’m so glad he isn’t coaching here. I think we’d already want him fired. I bet we’d be screaming for both him and Fitz to be shipped back to Boston or Rhode Island, New England or wherever.

That’s if the rumor of him hoping to be released by the Penguins so he could come here was legit. I’m not sure if that was BS or not.

I’m sure we’ll get him and largely this exact team both behind the bench and upstairs for the 2026 Olympics. They’re really set up nicely for a silver or bronze medal.

That's SUCH a Matthews in big game moment too, he had 2 assists + creating all night and he had a chance to become a USA legend if he buries that OT chance and then he gets posterized for the win. That dude can't win a big game whatsoever/have his moment in Boston lmao

Last critique for the game, why did they scratch Connor for Kreider. The team was playing already a man down with M. tkachuck and they put a guy kreider in who didn't play many minutes anyway.
Only thing I can think is they thought Kreider would be good on the PP (which never happened) and they were happy playing the top 3 lines a lot so didn’t mind having a PP specialist sit on the bench most of the game.

It wasn’t a good idea but that’s the only rationale I can see.

Treating that tin bean can as a trophy is a little appalling.

Get the medals, play the winners anthem and we're good...but it looks like they found that thing in somebody's attic 1955 Water Buffalo Grad Poobah bowling league championship trophy.

Yeah, once I saw that trophy I couldn't care less about losing. Sit on this loss for a year, get some more skill + Quinn Hughes in the lineup for 2026 and go win the thing that matters which is Olympic Gold.

That's one of the only reasons that maybe make sense. That or Kyle Connor was sick or something.

Or Nelson not icing the puck for absolutely no reason right before........
Another older, declining f*** who leaves you scratching your head as to why he’s here. And there’s no answers other than “Dat grit” and “Leadership tho” or “Heart and soul” or whatever cliche.

Don’t get me wrong, obviously some of those guys are needed.

I just don’t see the need for all of the guys like Nelson, Kreider and Trocheck to be on the roster or at least every night players over Tage Thompson.

Trocheck is an injury reserve player to me. I’m still betting a ton that Sullivan is in and Lavi is out with the Rangers after this year. Unless you think they’re gonna once again run it back with Sullivan in Pittsburgh after three straight playoff less years.

Losing still sucks but raising a fake trophy felt a little community theater.

I had less than no expectations for this tournament so I can't even act like I'm devastated. The better thing is that Jack/Bratt are healthy coming out of this tournament. Haula looked ok for Finland so maybe he pulls his head out of his ass for the stretch run for the Devils. I don't think I'll ever be as dejected as I was as a 14 year old when Sid put the knife in our chest in Vancouver especially after Parise tied it and almost jumped out of the arena. A lot went wrong for the US and they were still an Auston Matthews shot away from winning the whole thing.

It's not that serious, it was an incredible tournament for a typical season where we get the All Star Game. LOL @ anyone blaming Jack for that OT goal, you seriously don't know hockey if that was your takeaway. What about the horrendous icing by Nelson 5 seconds before when he had no one near him?

Quinn, Tage, Keller, Robertson in

Rangers rejects Nelson and Faber/Hanifin out
Jesus Christ, I forgot Robertson was even an American.

So why was it that he didn’t play? No way he was left off? He played the last game before the break. It looks like he’s played every game this year.

These f***in dinosaurs. Can we also get a bunch of the brain trust outta there along with some of those reject players? Sullivan and Quinn can go coach the bean pot next year.

Hanifin is another guy coasting off an old reputation.

All the NY/NJ area guys were pretty meh in this tournament, Bratt didn't even create much after his first game. The Rangers guys were especially horrific besides Miller, Fox looked like an old man on the Bennett goal tonight.
Thought Miller and Zib did ok in their games. The rest tho, yeah.
