Im of the opinion the winger should cheat heavier towards defending that type of pass into the middle of the ice but i get yelled at alot for not covering the point.

Yeah I don’t get why anyone is looking at him on that play. Matthews was the center, he was in the slot and abandoned it to chase the puck leaving the best player in the world wide open.
Matthews had several chances to win it in OT but other than that he wasn’t very good in the tournament either.

It's not that serious, it was an incredible tournament for a typical season where we get the All Star Game. LOL @ anyone blaming Jack for that OT goal, you seriously don't know hockey if that was your takeaway. What about the horrendous icing by Nelson 5 seconds before when he had no one near him?

That had to be Jack being loose or lost on the coverage. Matthews overcommitted but Jack was too high as well. Leaving the golden boy in waiting for the slam dunk slot shot.
Hope jack takes something from this. Man that was a buzzkill.
Matthews missed a grade A twice in OT as well. A lot of missed execution at the end when it mattered.

The game can be amazing while the tournament is a gimmick. I'd MUCH rather the Devils win a Cup. I'm kinda glad Canada won. This country doesn't need any more reason to be unjustly full of itself.

That’s usually what the weak side winger is expected to do, depending on the system.
The strong side winger usually has too many other responsibilities to also ask him to cover the slot or slot passing lane if the puck carrier is in the corner.

Great, fun tournament. The amount of non-hockey fan friends I have that got sucked into the experience is wild. This was a great appetizer for the Olympics next year.
Why on Earth would Jack cheat when his center is in perfect position? Absolute dumbass play by Matthews to abandon the slot.

Jack was clearly lost not playing center, but that's also part of his game. He always plays fast and loose like that. He wasn't bad this tournament, and I thought he actually tightened his defense a bit, but it wasn't enough.
Last time the USA won a best on best was the f***ing year the MLS was created. f***ing depressing

Yeah on the replay I thought that was Matthews bailing. Even if Jack is tighter down low, he's probably not stopping that. Still, there is absolutely 0% of killing that play when you are starting to fly the zone.

Consider that the second major coaching bullet we dodged after missing out on Gallant and going with Ruff instead.
I do think Sullivan was a really good coach at one point, but I don’t think so anymore. Perhaps he’s just lost it having to rot on a dead end team the last few years, and maybe he turns it around elsewhere, but I’m starting to realize why Pens fans act like he’s the worst head coach in pro sports. I certainly don’t think he’s the worst head coach in pro sports or even the league, but I’m beyond unimpressed.
And Hellebuyck again left a lot to be desired. Bob had even less playoff success than him until he was almost in his mid 30s. So his best may be yet to come, but he was clearly outplayed by Binnington in this one.

His lack of foot speed killed him in this tournament. He's still a good defender, he just couldn't match the pace.
I literally yelped when I saw Auston leave Mcdavid live. I couldn’t believe it. If he stays there then Fox gets to the corner and the puck goes to the point where Jack will be covering. This is ALL on Auston. Just a complete brainfart

Just sucks.
Yeah he wasn't bad, I agree, but he wasn't standing out either. When the playing field levels up with this competition, his effectiveness dropped a lot more than I would have imagined.
That was the surprising part for me. He had a few good looks early, but his effectiveness was minimized. Not sure that is chemsitry, linemates (brock!).
Kinda wish he skated harder on that icing, but I think it probably wouldn't have negated.
Just disappointed he had to be on the tough end of that whole thing and it was a little bit on him.

Lol what? They were the better team in OT and arguably were on par with Canada. The US had a 4th line that was useless, Jack was out of position, didn't have their top dman, Matt and Brady were hurt, etc. They can easily win Gold next year in Italy The best player in the world won the tournament, that's hockey.
At the end of the Day. If Matthews stays with McDavid, Fox pressures the corner and the puck goes to the point to where Jack is covering. Hockey 101.

Last critique for the game, why did they scratch Connor for Kreider. The team was playing already a man down with M. tkachuck and they put a guy kreider in who didn't play many minutes anyway.
