I ain't touching this one, even though I suspect my opinions are in line with many here.No one posting about guerin publicly inviting Trump to the game? Which he def wouldn’t go to with it not being a guaranteed win
Well it is related to the event so it should be fair game but like I said I really don’t see him going. Optics of USA losing with him there massive. Plus it being a “blue” state not helpingI ain't touching this one, even though I suspect my opinions are in line with many here.
It'll give the fans a common target of their jeers, at least....Well it is related to the event so it should be fair game but like I said I really don’t see him going. Optics of USA losing with him there massive. Plus it being a “blue” state not helping
This past year was the lowest ratings ever and have been declining for awhile.I don't know what the TV ratings are for the outdoor games but the games have always been packed so the league still makes a ton on revenue on those games.
The allure has definitely diminished significantly. It was cool when it wasn't an all the time thing. This past year was the lowest ratings ever and have been declining for awhile.

Well to that point Olympics will be special because of it being only once every 4.The novelty will eventually wear off a bit
with these tournaments, though the Olympics will always be special.
It will be rejuvenated when they have two cities most likely in Canada hosting 4 games outdoors over a weekend with countries going against one anotherThe allure has definitely diminished significantly. It was cool when it wasn't an all the time thing.

Can the league show the restraint of not flooding the market with these international events the way they have flooded the market with the outdoor games?
Perhaps an NHL sanctioned world cup every 4 years so between that and the Olympics you have an int’l tourney every other year. and then just take the L with your standard all star game on the in between years. Which in itself may regain some prominence if its every other year.
Our guy
No it hasn’t. 8.3 million people in the US watched the US-Canada preliminary game in 2010 (which took place opposite the figure skating competition). Nearly 27 million people watched the Gold Medal Game that year. It’s meaningless on the ice. Off it? It’s going to help the nhl get a bigger tv contract eventually. This series has brought more attention then the Vancouver Olympics
lol i was already shot down last week saying this. Eventually it will def happen. Next go around no because the expanded field will keep it fresh. After that? Possibly. Just wait til they slap a sponsored by to it $$$$$$$$
Attention I said not ratings. Thanks to social media. Shows still talking about it on Tuesday. Talk of it passing basketball in popularity all over. Didn’t happen in 10No it hasn’t. 8.3 million people in the US watched the US-Canada preliminary game in 2010 (which took place opposite the figure skating competition). The 4 nations is getting good numbers and better than anything since then (Saturday did outdraw the US-Russia game in Sochi), but it isn’t at the Vancouver levels. To be expected as this is a one off tournament vs the Olympics.
Hockeys always going to be the fourth out of four but it's not such a massive gap anymore I'd imagine. It's still a big gap but not as big.hockey will never, ever pass basketball in popularity in the US.
Okay that's fair.Relative to the NHL season it is objectively true that this tournament is meaningless. You get no points in the standings, stats do not count, it does not dictate home ice in the playoffs. There is nothing to be gained for an NHL team in its pursuit of the Cup via this tournament. Now you could argue about exposure bringing in more fans and more money to the league, but that will be evenly distributed and will not help any one team win the Cup.
Obviously to the individual players and the fans, the tournament is not meaningless. Clearly there is a lot of pride at stake and you can see it in the way they are playing. And that is fine. Admittedly it's been enjoyable to watch.
I think this tournament has to be viewed for what it is: Totally meaningless to the NHL season and very meaningful to the players and their pride. Whether you view the NHL season or pride as more important personally is what will drive how meaningful you think the tournament actually is. Or perhaps how important you think it is.
If you mean the Political garbage going on, that can't be thrown at the feet of the players.my overall point is that while yes, I would like it if the US team won (though some of them make it REALLY hard to root for them with the recent off-the-ice events if that makes sense), I really don't care either way. I only care about the New Jersey Devils. The only thing that mattered in this tournament was none of our guys getting injured. One more game to go.

Not gonna be there...
