From a Finnish perspective your junior system is brutally wasteful - we need to nurse our talent, you have the masses just to let them fight it out which can be bit random actually. Anyway, the numbers are so different that we can't probably make meaningful comparisons.
Our junior circuits are businesses. First and foremost. The leagues repeat as nauseam that the kids are already developed when they get to their teams. That pure dev is done at the minor levels. It’s been their excuse for making it a business. That is why the NCAA route is appealing; it keeps them there for at least an extra year.

Well, you really can't say the same about Finland. We don't have the numbers to make it commercial, there are all kinds of negatives though, especially the tendency of the junior team coaches to go for team success, to make disciplined and hard skating robots at the cost of individual development, but we have tried to address that issue over the years with various success.

That's also a consequence of the majority of NHL teams being situated in the US. Canadian player gets drafted to US team, settles down there and has kids born in the states. Those kids now become NHLers who represent 'Murica internationally.
Yes, but not for the reason you give. (don’t think this is the case with any US 4 nations players.).

There’s been a lot of growth in Florida because of the success of the lightning and panthers. Also, teams who go on long playoff runs see an uptick in registrations in the region.

Also, likely because of the number of US teams, it was the NHL’s idea for USA hockey to come up with a development plan.

Booing the US anthem is fine as long as Canadians don’t cry when their anthem gets booed on Thursday
Why would we cry? I can't speak for the ROC but don't think much people in Quebec would care much. I mean i'm not a separatist and i'm a proud Canadian but i have always found excessive nationalism super cringe.

No rookies or under 22 players on the team
This team is lacking some young blood for sure.

Hutson should be a lock very soon as well. Canada will get more talented, but not harder to play against. The US have so many studs coming up as well it won't matter much. Team Canada has always been an 'old boys' club, will never change
They had to go with the markets in Canada. For sure they were having Marner because he's the Toronto market. Scheifele and Suzuki are from lower markets so they've been snobbed. Marchand when you can have Celebrini, c'mon ! And we needed veteran Daughty because of past history? Country Club !

That’s why I’m okay with it too. I’m from the US but tend to cheer against the US in international competitions unless I have a good reason. Booing the anthem is good banter all around, but if you dish it out you have to be able to take it too

I am pretty sure Xhekaj will remember the Thatchuk Bros’ behavior at te Bell in future games.

These two should had been part of Team Canada. How come we see guys like Jarvis, Cirelli on that team ?

Too bad Canada did not have Theodore + Makar yesterday nite.

The US has 10x our population. It was only a matter of time (and money) that they'd catch up and surpass us. They're putting a lot of money into development, and Hockey Canada has been a huge mess for years. I saw an article recently that said that there are 70% less goalies in Canadian youth hockey now than there were 20 years ago.

I don't know what Hockey Canada can do to become the #1 hockey nation again, but it won't be easy.
I don’t think there is much hockey Canada can do.
20+ years ago a family on the lower middle class range could afford their children to play hockey.
Just to give you an idea, my niece that is around 15 years old and playing high level women hockey in the Ottawa region, her cost for the year is $15 000.
When I played 30 years ago it was probably a thousand including summer hockey school.

I can’t imagine how regular families living in the Vancouver or Toronto area can afford hockey.

Also, you need to look at the demographics we added to Canada the last 20 years, especially the last 10, which are more likely to pick cricket, basketball or soccer.

Hockey as we know it in Canada is forever gone, unless we suddenly start creating $150k for everyone and lower the cost of living.

Booing anthems is stupid, especially when the target of the booing is not even on site but in Washington, DC.

Doesn’t matter whether Trump/US Admin ever hear it, the people in the building and regular citizens across Canada and the US heard it. People acted collectively to express their interests and that’s meaningful.

If the players have hurt feelings because of it, that’s the price you pay when you represent a government/country threatening the lives and livelihoods of people in both the US and Canada. If the players aren’t representative of their countries, then the event should be marketed differently.

For better or worse (most definitely worse), the conflict has made for some pretty interesting hockey. The Summit Series still holds a place in hockey mythology and who knows how this will be viewed in the coming years. Purely from an entertainment perspective, I’ll take national pride and belligerent fans over another boring as f*** All Star game.

The problem is that people who have their country anthems at heart (on both sides) are hurt, and pissed off towards people of the other nation. Americans, right now, are blinded by their King Sun- Fuhrer.. And Trump is delighted by the hate show. More reasons for him and his medias to piss on Canada.

People have good reasons to boo Trump and his anthem. If Americans boo our own, it will only show that they have no clue about what's going on. In fact, they should boo their own anthem with us, if they have common sens.

With the US propaganda machine rolling, I doubt Canadians being nicer at a hockey game would be much of a bulwark against Fox Political Entertainment (News). Freaky times. It’ll be interesting to see what the teams and fans do in Boston.
