If they want to move forward with a tournament without the IIHF then have to hire better more intelligent people to organize it and sit down with players from other countries. There's too many dominant players who can't attend,

Are Slovakian and Czech players open to play together in a team and which name the team should be? Then you add an European team and when the conflict in Ukraine is over you bring back russians.

Canada
USA
Czechoslovakia (if possible maybe it's too much of a sensible subject)
Team Europe

Russia
u23 NA team
Sweden
Finland

3 games round robin, top 2 teams move forward to a semis game and then a both winners play the final and you can have a game for 3rd place with the losers.
I think they've already decided they're wanting to have 8 teams for '27 but maybe I'm mistaken. The under 23 team shouldn't happen again imo. Russia is an automatic no until they stop being shitbags. The Czech - Slovak partnership....possibly, that's something for those two nations to decide on.

It's been too successful for them not to continue.

Well you kind of have no choice i think? I don't think there's 8 countries who can fill a full NHL roster. Slovakia can't and would need to be merged with Czechia. I think the rest of Europe would need to be merged together and maybe you can make two teams dunno but i doubt. So to have 8 teams once russia return you kind of need to add a u23 team even if i personally hate the idea. My main problem with the first iteration was that Czechia and Slovakia were in Team Europe and i feel those countries are too strong to be added in a melting pot. Czechia can almost fill a roster alone they would not need much help to do so.

No choice for what...the under 23?

Yeah how do you have 8 teams of NHL players without it?
That's for them to figure out I guess....use the Olympic teams I'm guessing. My issue with the under 23 is maybe of those players could be their countries go-to guys, so which team takes precedent?

Why should a top 2 richest team in the league not be a top 2 destination? Read the whole post

By richest, I presume you mean the their franchise valuation where they seem to rank consistently top 3 based on publications such as Forbes.

Do you think when it comes to free agent players that one of their top priorities when figuring out where they want to play and raise their families is their valuation?l

We are talking about the Montreal Canadiens, they absolutely should be a top 2 destination of choice and it’s telling that they’re not
Why? Because the team was really good 50 years ago?

I obviously love the team and wish they'd be more successful, but there are plenty of reasons, both on and off the ice, why Montreal isn't very attractive to a lot of free agents.

People can buy into the propaganda as much as they want but 99% of UFA players or soo to be UFA players in their prime who have not win a cup yet will look at those three factors first to decide where they will play

1. The biggest contract giving them the most money after taxes (shared with the wife).
2. Is it a winning team.
3. Staying with the same team (not moving the family) if 1 and 2 are not too far off and the wife doesn't hate the place

Anything else is almost irrelevant outside of political propaganda.

You’re almost there! What can a rich team offer that a poor team can’t? Hint: it’s something that players want

I don't think it's dragging on but the final should be tonight. I think they'll be able to manage it better as we move forward. Also need to clarify all the roster rules, etc...

The final definitely should be tonight. I don't think the players needed 2 days off, but more importantly this gives them no days off to get back into season for Saturday.

28 teams are playing including Ottawa, Minnesota, Detroit, Edmonton, NYR, New Jersey, Colorado, Boston, Carolina, Toronto, Winnipeg, St. Louis, LAK, and Vegas, which means the vast majority of these players will play, head back to their teams after the game, practice Friday then play Saturday.

They probably would have preferred Thursday as a travel day.

I think a certain degree of anonymity is also very desirable. If it was all about cost of living (which i lump taxes into), then NYC wouldn't be the magnet that it consistently is.

I think you're not being realistic on what players actually value when choosing their destination.

Montreal's best bet is to be a winner on the ice and establish roots early with good players via drafting for player recruitment/retention.

I think Sam Bennett resigns with Florida, they have the cap space and the only substantial money they will have to give besides Bennett is Ekblad. Florida will get it done.

It doesn’t make sense for him to go to a rebuilding team when Florida is still a top contender for the cup.

Pending Trump tax cuts are looking to significantly reduce taxes on bonuses / options etc, which are already low federal rate to begin with

But not to the point of leaving a million on the table for most guys. NYR pays a lot for their guys look at their contracts they don't get them cheap at all.

It depends if he moves forward with the special canadian taxes. He's threatening to double the taxes of Canadians working in USA and Canadian companies operating in USA. That would put the federal taxes of Canadian athletes who are not nationalized to about 70% i think.
