Futa to Lindros - some players are waiting to get PP time and are forgetting how to play 5 on 5

Andrew Raycroft (50:03) from the NHL Network joins the show to discuss the possible line adjustments for Canada. What adjustments will teams make after Saturday's game (56:00).

Colby Armstrong (1:19:26) joins the show to discuss the hype surrounding the rematch, whether Seth Jarvis should be in Thursday’s game instead of Mitch Marner and their final score predictions. All 3 agree Jarvis should be in for Marner because Jarvis can give them 12 harder minutes.

I've said Coop will rely on his top guys and expect them to be over 20 minutes while the bottom 6 will closer to 10 minutes. Raycroft echoed the same sentiments.

Players know. They can see what the guy can or can't do vs peers. No player would ever say Marner has been ok, good, not bad etc. They would say he isn't really capable of keeping up in the top 6 and there are guys better suited for the bottom 6.

Im not sure Jarvis is going to be re-inserted in to the lineup after he lost his spot as probably the worst Canada forward against the US getting owned by the likes of Brock Nelson.

What a time to be alive. I don't think I've ever seen a player this hated before in my life.

So you think Futa, Marchese, Raycoft and Armstrong and fans hate Marner because they prefer Jarvis in the lineup in a game expected to be physical over Marner who clearly is not good in such games and has been terrible 5 on 5 so far? What are you expecting Marner to do differently tonight ?

Sounds like he's being scratched again.
People hate Jarvis now or are you referring to Marner?

Canada's goaltending has fallen off so hard it is almost unbelievable

That's not true though if you just look at the goaltending leaders (pick your metric). Canada doesn't have the top guy this year, but we're as well represented in the top 10 as any other country.

And keep in mind, other countries are simply catching up everywhere. Look at the number of Canadians selected in the first round of a recent draft vs. 20, 30 years ago. It's a lot less now, but not because we're not turning out good, young players anymore but because other countries are as well.

Referring to Marner.

Jarvis took a real beating against the US and I felt bad for him being the odd man out but it is what it is.

Considering the revamped lineup looked good last game, Re-inserting a player who hasnt done anything this tourney and struggled in the same role against the same team last time out and taking out a guy who has stepped up in the tourney and was fine the previous game.

I cant think of an objectively good reason to do this.

Please help me someone lol.

Marner was never going to come out of the lineup, can't imagine anyone admitting they believe that .

I cant get past re-inserting Jarvis back into the lineup in the first place.

Gonna ride with Konecny in his place to see if we get better results against the States.

Its just a hot take is all.

Jarvis got pulled because he was bad against the states. Konecny is getting his shot in that role despite the fact he hasnt been all that either overall (although suffering from illness too) Why the hell do you want to mess with any of the other lines after they looked good last game.....by reinserting the same player in the same role he sucked at.

I mean, this is coaching 101 no?

Hot takes are one offs from an individual. What you meant to say was it was a consensus lol

OK....?

20 IQ hot take or 20 IQ consensus, I don't want the guy who got owned by US 4th liners back tonight in the same role. I want the team to win.

Forget pulling anyone off the team, you have to get past that first.

Didn't listen to what was posted but I can guess. Not a word about how Jarvis played and lost his spot but it was all about crap talking Marner?

Again, what a time to be alive.

Getting those clicks for sure......

He seems to be always fighting something.

If he isn't the impact star centerman in the playoffs, doing the emotional uplift, Leafs need to acquire one or change the team's dynamic.

Over the past 5 years, he is PPG in the playoffs.
Highest on the Leafs, ahead of Nylander, who is 17th.

Matthew Tkachuk is 1.05 PPG
Connor McDavid 1.77
Leon Draisaitl 1.51
Nathan MacKinnon 1.35
...

He is tied for 13th. PPG during this period.
In these top 15, he is 10th. +/- (for what that's worth).

With this being said, I think the Leafs need to supplement their team

Your chart really emphasizes my desire to swap powerforward Mikko Rantanen at #4 OA 1.32 PPG , at the expense of similar cap hit AAV it would be to retain Marner if possible. :)

Rantanen impact even exceeds Auston Matthews by a fair margin as well in terms of points per game production when it really matters.

One day after Sweden's elimination from the 4 Nations Face-Off, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects reported that sources informed him that the team wasn't just dealing with a small flu bug, but rather some severe symptoms including feeling weak and dehydration.

"Sources indicate that while the flu has spread around the 4 Nations, Team Sweden wasn't just dealing with a little bug running through their team.

"Guys were ravaged. Weak. Dehydrated. Surely impacted their play to a great level," Robinson wrote on X.
Despite dealing with severe flu issues throughout the tournament, Sweden was very impressive, pulling off a comeback to force overtime against Canada on the opening night (which they ultimately lost), got to OT against rivals Finland and defeated the United States thanks to a strong performance from goaltender Samuel Ersson.

The Swedes have a really strong group, and they're certainly going to be in the mix for the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy, next February.

FWIW

Leaf Nation could be cheering for Seth Jarvis just like they cheer for Marner for Canada as Carolina used Leafs 1st round drift pick gifted them when Leafs greenhorn GM blew his budget and then was forces to dump Marleau contract at the expense of that 1st round pick. .

The same can be said for Travis Konecny who was also an original Leafs draft pick traded to gain more picks by Leafs the same naive GM to bring in Travis Dermott, Jeremy Bracco & Martin Dzerikels instead.

Leaf Nation fans could actually have Marner, Jarvis and Travis Konecny all Leafs by rights playing in this tournament for Canada,

How cool would that have been?

Feels like its going through all the teams to an extent.

I was screaming for them to pick Konecny at the time.
He would have went a lot higher that draft if not for injury concerns and he was passed up by multiple teams.

Is it too early to start warming up for the game?! Asking for a friend...
Picked up some Signal Hill Founders Select OP whiskey, and had a little sip taste test and goddamn does it hold up against some of them American bourbons/ryes.
Go Canada Go!
(Don't worry, no more sips until after dinner)

Damn I will be out and won't have access to a TV but I will have my tablet with me.

Is there a way to watch this via the internet? I wish CBC carried it as it would be available to me if they did.

if you have sportsnet I'm pretty sure they have an app you can stream off of

alternatively, you can consider less legally acceptable methods which would require a PM

You are not playing Finland. That is why you have to ice your strongest lineup. Hopefully it is all moot when Copper plays his top guns 22+ minutes and the rest less than 10. It is the only way to tilt the ice in a one game winner take all.

lol, meh, at my age I will just wait for the replay I guess, thanks though.

The game wouldn't matter if not for the outside noise and drama that built it up. Regardless of the outcome, the guys who dropped their gloves made it a big deal in the U.S and the game will grow without question. Head to head vs the NBA all-star and the NHL is coming up on top in terms of interest I'm sure.

Jarvis shouldn’t even be on the team that’s the difference marner is supposed to be a staple on this team and a top player hes tied for 4th in the league in scoring isn’t that what my friend acc was bragging about enjoy the good with the bad my friends

All of the top players looked toothless against Helle in the first game outside of that one McDavid rush.

Gotta hope they find a way to break through tonight.

Jarvis or Konecny, gotta make sure not to be a negative against your counterparts. Canada wants to make it our superstars against theirs.
