Not confident with Binnington and the lines make no sense.

I also think they did a terrible job picking the team.

They have three centers who do not need world-class talent to succeed and put up points and they've decided to neuter all scoring depth by trying to load up the top two lines.

To me, the answer is simple for the forwards, run 3 top lines and a defensively responsible 4th.

Mix and match these however you want (it is hard to match speed on these lines), but something like this.

Marner - McDavid - Point
Hagel - MacKinnon - Reinhart
Marchand - Crosby - Stone
Bennett - Cirelli - Jarvis

Also, anyone complaining about Marner... MacKinnon should be enemy number one, but guys like Stone, Cirelli, and Reinhart have been more useless too.

I don’t get your point. Are they not suppose to cheer for their team?
Cheering for your team is one thing, publicly celebrating before the tournament is over is another. Coaches have been using stuff like this to give their players extra motivation since they were playing polo on dinosaurs.

We've gotten used to goaltending being a strength for Team Canada but now it isn't, simple as that. Team USA has the edge in net and considering how important goaltending is, that's a big part of why they're the favorites to win this thing.

It is THE reason for me. So much nonsensical talk here and everywhere about team USA and how much better they are... I call complete bs. The teams are even, and I'd argue Canada is better but the difference in goaltending is massive.

Binnington has sucked, at min 3 bad goals agaist vs zero bad goals against for Hellebuyck. It's as simple as that.

I think they picked the worst goaltenders possible.

The team selection and lines have me confused, they removed their greatest strength, which is the star power down the middle.

I still think they have a team that can win, but I have less faith if they don't switch up the lines.

MacKinnon specifically can do a lot on his own and he always tries to, so give him two speedy wingers who can keep up and retrieve pucks instead of giving him someone like Crosby who is known for making the people around him better, but they need to be team players.

This is spot on IMO. If we ignore goaltending, the teams are pretty even but in goal, massive edge to the US. Goaltending is critical in the playoffs, and in this tournament format it's even more critical. Off the top of my head, I'd say goaltending is maybe half the game so it's an uphill battle for Team Canada. In any case, gotta win tonight first.

I have to say, I'm starting to get a bit more interested in this. It's probably partly because I've almost completely lost hope for winning the cup with this core so Team Canada is my only hope for winning something, even if it this artificial cashgrab cup. Worrying about Trump becoming a dictator and taking Canada by force if necessary so he can steal our natural resources is probably a factor as well so ... Canada still exists as a sovereign nation and hockey is still our game, I'd like to see a convincing win tonight and go from there.

Let's go Canada!!

Maybe so but even the best possible pick wouldn't negate the edge the US has with Helly. Who would you have picked?
What idiot decided to schedule this CAN game at 1pm?

Should have done at least 4pm
I thought the game was at 8 and was about to go out for a walk so TY for this post!!

Marner on the 3rd line with Hagel and Cirelli during warmup.
Pretty close to perfect line for a player like Marner

Toss out a guy like Cirelli who has never been a good 2C at the NHL level before this year and insert a former top 7C and current top 15 1C in Mark Schiefele and you have an elite line

Puck retriever with good skating, and hands and shot in hagel, has ability to finish chances and be a good defensive prescense

Marner can be offensive engine in terms of quick passes and shot generation looks with 2 guys who dont need the puck to much and arent playing a strong high tempo game which marner isnt good at

Schiefele is still a very good dual offensive threat. Great shot, and good passing. Has size, and I believe he has become decent defensive past 2ish years (was a cone before that)

This would have been such a good line to have but Cooper forced McDavid and Marner duo and took Cirelli over Schiefele for some reason

How would a 4pm start work with a game that night in the same building?
Yeah I didnt realize that both games are now in Boston.

Sucks both are same night in same city.

They could have scheduled it better eith 1 game in MTL at 8 and the other in BOS at 8.

That way its all live time drama and Swe/US game isnt potentially a waste depending on game 1
