Beast. Mode.

I've become super high on him. Think he will carve out a bottom six career no questions asked. Has all the tools and is adding weight to his growing frame too. Just gets better year over year (already surpassed last years point total and has 16 games to go) which is even more impressive given practically NO support on his team compared to his scoring contemporaries who are practically all blue chip first rounders.

I'm amazed, honestly.

I think his upside is a 2nd line center. Amadio was an elite offensive player prior to the OHL and it's just taken some time to become an elite player in the OHL...and he's just getting better. There was a recent article (cannot find it) where scouts or King development person stated Mike has now become a more dynamic goal scorer.
He's also captain and as you say, has attained his point totals without top OHL level linemates. Nor, pads his totals with PP points, for that matter.

Let's have high expectations here! Look at: Jamie Benn. Top OHL year: 71 points.
Brandon Saad 76 points...James Neal 65 points....Amadio has topped all of them and has 16 games to go and may reach 100 points.

Really good news, we're going to need him down the road when Kopitar and Carter get older. He's certainly looking like our best Center prospect now that Kempe and Dags will probably play wing.

Amadio is everything that Craig Johnson should have been

Craig Johnson provided a random enjoyable memory from a game ~2001. I forget if it was McFlurrys, but they were doing a promotion where if Player X scores a goal in this period, everybody in attendance got some freebie.

When they announced that the player was Craig Johnson, the entire crowd moaned.

Later in the period, Johnson got on a breakaway. He didn't convert, but it was almost like the crowd wanted the free food item even more than the goal itself. [/coolstorybro]

Scouting report from my buddy who works for ISS,

#18: Wears "C". Played top line C + PP and PK. Lots of upper body strength with weaker legs. Got caught in open ice a few times but along the boards uses upper body well to shield the puck. Quick stride but lacks breakaway speed. Has a good stick in all three zones. Good IQ and finds quiet spots in offensive end on the rush and cycle. Shot is NHL level with quick release, scored a pair of goals both with no time for goaltenders to react to puck being on his stick. NHL upside is a bottom six role player that can score, high end sees him being a third line two way C.

Was hoping to get another comment from the team's GM who said Amadio has no NHL future. Working on that, but not sure I'll get it.

The leg strength comment is interesting because I remember reading Amadio is working on his speed and burst. Have to imagine the LA dev team will have fun with that. Have no worries there after watching Toffoli's development.

I disagreed above with the release of his shot but I guess that's more to do with his wrist shot which looked lumbering. Many of his goals are scored with a quick touch which is encouraging for the next level (ie wasting no time getting it away). I do have issues with his placement, but I'll trust the scout, I"m just an amateur :P I tend to agree with everything else which makes me feel validated a little

I do remember you talking about a guy who suggested he wouldn't be a player; is that the GM youre referencing? Either way, just interesting to wonder why--after viewing him more, like I said, I did see issues with his shot/scoring, but didn't see any reason he couldn't be a role player with his smarts.

Thanks for the info. 4th in the OHL in goals without top talent on his team is impressive. 'The teams GM said he has no NHL future' - as in North Bay's GM??

I remember seeing him at dev camp up close, and wow, he's a lot bigger than you think. Especially the upper body comment. I think he has put on a good 10-15 pounds from this year to last year.

Yeah Rosen had him listed at 6'3" 227lbs at camp. at age 18!

The 6'3" 227 must be a mistake...maybe that was Lintuniemi...as he was drafted
the pick before Amadio. Watch the video clips above from this year...he looks 6'1 to 6'2" at the most and about 200 lbs. Look at the last one, as he skates by the bench.
Looks 6"1" at best. And no way 227.

I think height/weight inflation is pretty common in pro sports. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was legit 6'1 200 pounds and yet still had 2 inches and 20 pounds on the guys listed at 6'1 200 pounds lol. Just the way it goes. I've seen alot of these guys in person off ice and they are nowhere near the size they are listed at.

I do the same thing with my junk on online dating sites.

OHL site lists Mistele at 6'1", 196.

The Kings rookie camp and training camp had him listed at 6'1", 190.

So, maybe Sean Backman is 5'5" 148. Bummer.
