Armia and Savard are only ever going to bring back 3rd (or possibly a 2nd if the market is seller friendly as it is some years and not others). They just aren't good enough to fetch more.

But Evans... That guy is really good. Habs will be worse on the ice the moment he's not on the roster. He'd be like losing a Danault or Artturi Lehkonen. He's not as good as either of them, but he is cut from the same cloth type of player.

Easily the most value TDL asset the Habs have this season.

Don't be surprised when Jake Evans signs his next contract that looks like this.

6 years $29.4MM (AAV of $4.9MM/per).

That's why he would be available. I mean I want The Habs to keep him but not at that cap hit

Sounds about right. I was thinking it would make sense for him to go for 2/3 second round picks you have in 2025. Probably two lowest ones.

Finding his trade value would be difficult, as he’s been terrific this year. He’s been one of the best penalty killers in the league, great on face offs, plays with grit and can score.

If the Habs retained his contract at 50%? You’d be looking at a fairly significant asset (in my opinion). The 2026 1st round pick would probably be the target for Hughes. I don’t know if the Devils would want to pay it, but I’m certain that would be the ask.

Sure, I don’t doubt they’ll examine all options. I’m just saying if the Habs retained 50 percent (and potentially took a cap dump back) then that’s the kind of return they’d be looking to receive.

Evans has been terrific this year. He’s actually produced more on the third line and killing penalties, than Nelson has playing first line and the top powerplay (to date anyway).

He’s also younger and cheaper which suits Jersey a hell of a lot more with their current cap structure, which could also allow them to make another depth move at the deadline as well.

ROR seems like Palat 2.0. That kind of player is exactly what the Devils need - great defense and chips in enough offense - but he is no longer what he was. And certainly wouldn't give up anything significant for him at this point. At best, a 2nd and B-tier prospect.

The cheaper set of players - Evans, O'Connor, Tanev, etc. - seems more likely. Maybe even two of them if possible.

I'd also say that people are proposing a lot of players I like - Backlund, Coleman, Tanev, ROR, etc. - but missing the real problem. The Devils get stops from their bottom six, defensively they're fine. The issue is depth scoring. Quite a few of these guys are barely above Haula as far as career averages.

That being said, I will say that Backlund, ROR, Coleman and Tanev are more likely to do hero shit in the playoffs than our current bottom six.

Depending on how the next month or so goes for the Habs, Dvorak should definitely be moved. He can definitely help a team that has the depth like the Devils have.

The whole 4th line (and 1/3 of the third is terrible right now). I don't see how Fitz lets it stand as is. 3 weeks ago I would have said a small tweak

Tanev would be a good get. Wouldn't cost Devils nearly as much.

Disagree with the ROR assessment. He's still good on a bad team... who really cares what I think though.

Devils are better with ROR vs Tanev though Tanev would be cheap.

How many teams are really sellers? There are plenty of teams in the East in that mushy middle and none of them appear to be taking the bull by the horns. Hard to see Montreal selling based on their current play and the current standings

Jake Evans is shooting the most ridiculous 30% I've ever seen. That'll come back to his career 10% mark, and when it does his offensive production disappears.

For context, if Nelson (who has a career shooting % 4% higher than Evans does) had that shooting luck, he would be at 30 goals this year already.

I would prefer Evans as a target to nelson yes. But that is because Evans is a significantly lower cost target. Once you make their acquisition costs the same (by asking for a 1st for Evans), then you take Nelson in a heartbeat
