I missed the part of the rules book where if you are down by a couple of goals you get a free pass to knock an opposing players teeth out with your stick.
That one is not in the rule book. It's in a different book. The business part of hockey - blowout games attract less viewers.

You'll never get it. When a D makes an aggressive decision, sometimes it blows up and when it's a D, it's for everyone to see.

You can't say you love Letang for his great plays without accepting the occasion it goes bad.

:biglaugh:

When everyone wants to trade Letang back in the day, I had the history of constantly saying I understand where the rage is coming from, but the dude is irreplaceable in every single way.

I have been one of the biggest 58 backers out there. I may not be psycho in love like @pixiesfanyo :sarcasm: but 1 trillion percent on this 58 love.

Swing and a missss.

I personally think the 2016 Pens, on the way to the playoffs, were the best team of the entire cap era. And I think this team is an exact duplicate. It doesn't guarantee anything but my lord... have fun taking this team out in a best of 7 if they can stay at this level.

And even when they weren't winning games, they WERE playing with this speed/hustle. If a team beats them in 7, hats off. This team is playing GREAT hockey.

My only complaint/worry is that the 2016 team went on their run the second half of the season into the playoffs.

Playing this style takes a toll. Have you seen the Pens man games lost this year?

Maybe too much too early and they burn out when it counts.

That's when the refs will suddenly remember that the rule book exists.

The NHL way is to only remember the rule book for the losing team...otherwise the losing team is entitled to commit as many penalties as they like...I believe this is actually written out somewhere in the NHL ref’s handbook...

Fair... or maybe all these injuries are giving enough guys some rest and they can be 100% at playoffs! Half full.

Unfortunately it's a gift and a curse going back to speedy structured play. We have no one that can actually lay someone out. Tanev hits but more of a separation thing. ZAR thinks he can but...well we all watch.

We really are better off just using our hitting to separate the puck and pull away. Frustrating when other teams take liberties but thats not our game. Our game is winning the scoreboard.
You can still play your game but nail Chabot whenever he's around and you have a chance. We only pull away from our game when we start getting frusterated and play like a hitting team, but you can still finish your checks and not play frusterated. Pick your targets and your moments.

plus chances for guys like Lafferty and Blandisi to get their feet wet. And for Blueger to take on a bigger role that he likely never gets tried for if we're healthy all year.

This game is what I believed could be trouble. Pens are cooling off to a degree and the Sens have zero to lose. Hopefully Sid returns shortly and gives the Pens a needed lift. At some point, Sid and Bjugstad provide the slotting as to lines and needed size and board work.
A needed lift from 8-2 in their last ten? Bjugstad and work? You lost me.

Hopefully all the injuries keep players refreshed for the stretch run...that’s the only positive...

I actually thought about the how many are rested angle. And in a similar vein a ton of depth getting quality experience.

Still, playing this way has arguably resulted in a ton of man games lost. And you want your best players somewhat fresh going into the playoffs.

I would not cry to see a few games where the Pens coast, even if it means a handful of losses.
