Are you insinuating our lord and savior God King Torts, and his side kick Rocky "genius" Thompson don't have it all figured out??? The worst powerplay in the NHL for 3 years doesn't mean anything, it's not his fault!
You're right, of course. Michkov should have just scored. It's on him.

the ones you swear that have no input?
If they had input, those trades would be made.
Holmgren fired Hextall for not making moves like these.
How have the Flyers been doing since that Cates line has been put together?

Oh thats right... terrible.

Funny how making any line up decisions specifically for Michkovs benefit is "bad for the team" but we will sacrifice the season to keep Cates hot!

Torts has his favorites and thats that. If your name isnt Cates, Seeler, or Hathaway youre SOL.
Huh? What?
The Cates line hasn't been the problem, nor has it caused any problems on the other lines.
Foerster and Brink were both struggling before they were matched with Cates.

The problem is the goalies, period. STs too, but you could live with that with decent goalies.
Since the Cates line was put together - Nov 25 (18 games):
xGF/60: 2.73 (2), xGA/60 1.86 (1), xGF 59.55% (2)
HDCF/60: 11.52 (7), HDCA/60: 8.58 (4), HDCF 57.33% (2)
GF/60: 2.95 (3), GA/60: 2.78 (25)
PP xGF/60: 4.51 (32), PK xGA/60: 11.36 (32)
all situations goaltending: (GA - xGA)/60: +1.10

Our AHL goalie who refuses to play in the ahl, who clearly needs to be in the ahl, and has the organization by the balls.

Briere might be the most limp dicked GM we've had the Flyers. Bends to the will of Torts and Jonsey is too much of a puss to actually do anything either because he's someone who tries to get everyone to like him rather than do his job.

No, Holmgren fired Hextall because he locked the old boys out.

Now magically those same old boys just don't care anymore?

This organization is basically screwed. Both for the rest of this season and beyond. The hole in goal and center ice is not going to get fixed in a year or so. Even if the Flyers do well in the draft, it'll take four or five years for any of them to become established NHL level players.
Most serious fans can see this. They would buy into the rebuild if they knew that that was truly the situation. Not so long go the fans did that when Richards, Carter and others were drafted and developed. However the fans will not support lousy play by less than mediocre players led by a coach who is taking them nowhere. The Flyers need to draft well this summer and get in a coaching staff that can bring along the young kids.
The first step in that direction is to get Tortorella and Thompson out of here. As last night's game showed. They don't have a clue as to what to do in order to put a NHL product on the ice. Keeping these guys around only tears down what little talent the club has at it's disposal.

They scored 2 goals! Count em' 1-2, That's 2. They can't score and they're playing hands of stone, Ryan Poehling the most minutes out of any Flyer forward at 5 on 5. Add in the combination of bad goaltending and soft coverage and what do you have? The coach is a buffoon.
Since they put the Cates line together they're 3rd in scoring 5x5 (18 games).
Scoring is not the issue, goaltending and STs are the issue.

Other than Ersson getting healthy and Fedotov getting his crap together . . . Kolosov is a lost cause and needs to go back to the AHL or KHL for a couple more seasons.

But they should NOT trade for a goalie, this is exactly what a rebuild is like, you live with holes in the short-run while you build a team - in 2-3 years, if a goalie doesn't emerge, THEN you trade for one with surplus assets.

@VladDrag fellow rocklover, does it also bother you he listed a metamorphic and igneous rock but totally skipped over all the sexy sedimentary rocks? Somehow he's got the wherewithal to know about extrusive igneous rocks, but man, what about paleosols even?

RELIEF.
My first introduction to rocks were the schists in Chester county, so it doesn’t bother me too much:laugh:

You're wrong that the problem is the goalies period. They don't score enough goals and they make too many coverage mistakes. It's not just the goalies.

You're wrong. The game is more than just 5 on 5. You say special teams are the issue but scoring is not an issue. What happens on the PP. They don't score enough goals and they are soft on coverage and make too many preventable mistakes. Improve the coverage and the goaltending will improve some. It's symbiotic.

The goalie thing will shake itself out. Right now they're going to have to live with the mess that they've made.
I still believe that Ersson, if he can get healthy and not be abused by the coaching staff, can be a good NHL goaltender His play in the SEL was too good for him to be a bust.
The eastern Euros are not the answer.
Maybe Makiniemi can be a backup when he recovers from his hernia surgery. Otherwise this summer they're going to have to make a trade or nab a FA.

Are they rebuilding, or is it time to bring back Holmgren as GM?

If they're rebuilding, they should only add a veteran on a 1-2 year deal and keep developing young goalies.

The advantage of bad goalies when you rebuild is you can build a solid team and still draft high until you're so good you can overcome bad goalies. At which time the rebuild is over.

B/c goalies are so variable, it's the last hole that should be addressed, b/c it will require multiple solutions, reliable franchise goalies (Hellebuyck, Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin before this season, who else?) are so rare you have to luck into one. And they usually burn out after 5 years or so

Completely forgot the Flyers had a game last night. Hopefully this was an embarrassing loss!!!!!!!

I'm hooked on the Ferry shows/movies on Netflix, almost done Undercover. Much more interesting than a Flyers game.

What would you expect from a grown man that still parts his hair down the middle?

If only a great goalie prospect like Askarov hit the trade market this past summer.

Cates is being carried by his linemates, not the other way around.
