He was no doubt overpaid. At the end of the day does it really hurt the Flyers going forward for where they currently stand? 2 million per should have been enough.

What do you think he should have received to get him to come over?
He should have received less.

The Flyers are cap strapped and even though they aren't rebuilding, if they were theyd have less space to leverage for assets. Every cent counts. Their nonstop attention to such details is a problem. The people responsible are still here, so it is a relevant problem.

Fedotov two years ago carried his team to a KHL championship, at his peak he's a starting NHL goalie.
Question is the impact of basically two years off, and having to adjust to NA hockey.
It was a gamble, but there's time for him to turn it around.

The Flyers are cap strapped only with regard to adding a big FA.
Right now they're projected to have $6M at the TDL, without putting Ellis on LTIR, which would free up $6M more.
So Briere can make any deal he needs to make, b/c no need to keep Ellis off LTIR after the TDL.

It blows my mind that Stolarz, coming off a Cup and with a track record, signed for $1.5MM less than Fedotov.

The Flyers enjoy stories and legends of competency more than actual competency. They have the perfect front office and coach for that.
Flip side is would he want to come back? Granted money talks.

All comes down to Kolosov, Flyers are playing everyone even (as long as they avoid taking stupid penalties) or better, but can't win if your goalie gives up a couple "softies."

It’s a fascinating psychological aspect of fandom that mildly succeeding is the most difficult outcome to accept. A Middle 6 Forward like Frost will always be framed around what he can’t do. But you get to this dumpster fire and there’s an excuse built in. That excuse will be leveraged until the end of time. It applies broadly too. Laberge has the injury and how he performed completely stopped mattering. Anything to avoid honest self-reflection.

Welcome to 2025, and another year of Flyers goaltending snafus and kerfuffles... what a time to be alive!

Happy New Year, tribe
Happy New Year.

Game we should get blown out, but we do tend to steal games vs Vegas, so who knows.
Maybe they get 4 goals on 13 shots. Get outshot 39-13 and win 4-3 and we will get to hear how great everything is.

What peak?! He’s a 28 year old with iffy technique and 13 career NHL games rocking an .866 save %. Let’s cut the shit: Fedotov’s mother doesn’t even think he’s an NHL backup goalie.

Can we just yet again talk about how this board and mainly the hive overrates prospects? (yeah I know 28, but you know what I mean)

It is hilarious Tortorella has bailed on Fedotov. Fedotov no doubt has been horrendous but so has the other two. The floor is low with all three options right now so it would be understandable to be just throwing shit against the wall & hoping something can stick. It can’t get worse & nobody is running away with it.

In the process he makes the GM look like a buffoon given the contract he dulled out for the player.

Granted Briere is a buffoon but he’s a pushover too.

Fedotov had leverage and used it.
And yes, before he got exiled he was an excellent KHL goalie.

He had good career in Russia. They had a need for a goalie. It was a risk worth taking. Or do you disagree and why? At the time do you think it was a solid move?

I said you can question their scouting on it. I said he was overpaid. Of course, he was unproven as he played in a different league. Aren’t all draft picks unproven to an extent? This is the type of move they should make. Short term deals to see if they can play at the NHL level.
So much wrong here, I'm not sure where to begin. You state that "aren't all draft pick unproven to an extent"? Yes absolutely they are. My reply to that is how many unproven draft picks are paid 3+M in their rookie year that doesn't include performance bonuses? Sure they had a need for a goalie. Doesn't mean you should overpay for an unproven player. At the time I had no idea but certainly questioned the contract.
To sum it up, you state that thier scouting can be questioned on it. You agree he is overpaid. State that of course he was unproven. Then state it's the type of move they should make. You think they should pay an unproven player, that shows that their scouting is questionable to a 3+M a year 2 year contract. Short term deals to see if a player can play at the NHL level is fine for the right price.
Now I'm going to tell you why they signed him to that deal. Because their a bunch of incompetent p***yes who are afraid that they might lose some games. So they decided to overspend on a player that so far, hasn't been worth it. Yet they wouldn't sign Gauthier in March of 23 because they didn't want a 95K signing bonus overage to affect their following years cap. The Fedetov signing to this point in time. screams incompetence.

Fedetov had zero leverage. A proven player who is an upcoming UFA has leverage. A player who is far from a star who has never played an NHL game, who is 27 at the time has zero leverage. The "leverage" that he did have is that he was dealing with a bonehead incompetent management group.
