Leo fumbles the puck himself plenty. I think somebody said it earlier that Killorn might have more points himself if not for that. Of course he’d have some more points with better players but I don’t think he’d be playing better. We just disagree big time on this.
But that's part of my point. Yes, Leo is fumbling the puck more and more. Could be confidence, could be frustration, could be playing through injury, could be all three. I think we all know he can handle the puck better than this. The problem is we've got the problem getting worse with him and the problem keeps getting worse for Killorn who I'd argue is getting worse and worse when it comes to mismanaging basic plays with the puck, on top of his idiotic dump and chase attempts when Leo and Leason are nowhere near close enough to chase after the puck behind the net. One good 2 on 1 assist doesn't erase that. The problem is Killorn is a long time veteran who should be the stabilizing presence on this line. Instead he's only expounding the possession woes of his line by routinely making stupid decisions with the puck. Again, Leo needs to work on his own individual frequency of mistakes, but he has less of an opportunity to do that because the veteran on his line is constantly coughing the puck up. And it lends to a total lack of chemistry between the two along with them having to defend a lot more.
This is our second overall pick. A kid whose flashes of talent are indicative of a top line talent, maybe even franchise player if everything comes together for him. We can disagree big time. To me, my feeling is that leaving Leo with Killorn is not helping him if the goal is to benefit from playing with a veteran. The way I see it, the two sharing a line together is making it that much harder for the kid to put it together and it seems to be impacting his confidence and frustration level. To me, with a kid that has this kind of potential, yes...he needs to be accountable to himself, but the team should try something else because Killorn as a partner is counter-productive at this point.
