Gun to the head.

Would you the trade again if presented today.
Probably. Gauthier is unproven, he's had two years of college and is having a mediocre rookie year (9 ES points in 33 games playing 3rd line minutes), so his upside is more in question than a year ago.
Meanwhile, Drysdale has shown significant improvement.

Both are risky, neither is likely to play up to their draft position, Gauthier is a better bet than Drysdale, but not by a wide margin.
However, the Anaheim 2nd is probably going to be in the top 40, so that tips the scales.

Problem is 3 year average for Drysdale is misleading.
He got really screwed over in Anaheim. Rushed to the NHL then jacked around.
You can see the progress he's already made under Shaw, now is that sustainable? How much can he improve?

people are angry at torts..for many reasons(i kind of get it). if he gets fired..who the f*** you would want to coach flyers? every coach in nhl is a dinosaur...atleast torts get something out of our lineup. sure with other ones we could get better draft pick...but if you want wins? who would you want our coach to be?

The only win I want this year is in the draft lottery, because we aren't good enough, or deep enough, to be pushing for on-ice success. We need to suck, and accumulate picks, and be ready to turn the corner only once we have reasonable hope that the talent and the timing will line up to maximize Michkov's superstar window.

That said, as soon as Montgomery came available, I would have thrown Torts out a window for him, in a heartbeat. I don't know a ton of the new hot names in coaching, I'd look at Jeff Halpern in TB, Joel Ward, as mentioned, I'd even be willing to give Shaw a shot, as long as he came with a new coaching staff rather than just "fill his current position and keep Torts's guys." Other than that, I would want a broad-based search, focused more on first or second-time guys who've been cutting their teeth as assistants or AHL/Euro HCs, though I'd be open to Gallant as well.

Significant improvement?

f*** off.

Full stop, stop embarrassing yourself.
Since he returned to the lineup: 8g xGF 60.20%, HDCF 54.32%, xGFrel +7.57, HDCFrel +4.80.
Now it's a small sample, and he's been sheltered to some extent, which is why I'm not jumping to any conclusions.

But the eyeball test confirms, he's playing with a lot more confidence, using his speed to drive play.
He'll always be a bit of an adventure on defense, which is why they want to pair him with Seeler instead of Zamula/Andrae, giving him a veteran "safety blanket."

One reason Zamula is playing over Andrae:
his last 9 games, xGF 65.09%, HDCF 68.46%, xGFrel +12.19, HDCFrel +23.68
Given Zamula is out of options, they want to see if this is for real before making long-term decisions.

Yea he gets so much out of the line up they are the worst regulation team in the league. John coaches to barely win, and its questionable if he even tries. Record would be garbage if Michkov wasn't clutch in open ice.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself saying this about a Gostisbehere season in which he had 5 Points in 23 Games. Now visualize the words "Two Primary Points" inserted into your usual post.

i’ll always root for wins but of course when you suck losses give you a bit of excitement as well… but the flyers have kept me just far enough from both all year to not know
ikr? That's the hard part. They are so in between and seem stuck there.

I guess we have to hope goaltending somehow develops and improves and they get lucky and build a true #1 line around Michkov.

I know Sullivan is a Torts disciple, but he still seems preferable to Torts.

How is he with gifted young players? That's probably the most important aspect.
He coached the Pens AHL franchise before he was promoted and brought a half dozen players with him.

But no NHL coach worth hiring would play MM more than Torts has, running a 19-20 year old into the ground to win games is stupid for a rebuilding team. That's how you get young players hurt.

Last 14 games (when the Cates line was put together) they've pretty much played 4 lines;
Farabee - Couts - TK
Tippett - Frost - Michkov
Foerster - Cates - Brink
Laughton - Poehling - Hathaway
During that period, they are 7th in xGF/60, and 1st in xGA/60.
11th in HDCF/60, 3rd in HDCA/60.
9th in Sh%, so they seemed to have learned how to finish plays.

Last couple game Torts has been shuffling the first two lines, especially with Michkov playing less due to dead legs. He's said he likes Couts at LW. But who plays center then?

The two lines aren't playing badly, but they don't quite add up.
The Cates line is playing out of their gourd.
The Couts line has been the worst of the four, though they tend to get the toughest matchups.

Eventually Briere will make changes, but no rush, Farabee has picked up his game, so you wouldn't want to sell low, get a better read with a bigger sample.

I just told you this is nonsense, the thing to do isn't to repeat the claim that was just debunked in detail.
