So the trick was that I needed to not watch
It wasn’t a regulation win so it doesn’t really count.

You know what just clicked in my head? Why are we told how ES points are more important than PP points (which also don’t count) but regulation wins don’t matter more than wins in other manners?

This is now my schtick.

I got to sit in a suite tonight for the first time. It was thru my wife’s work and I wasn’t sure if anyone there was related to any of the big wigs at her place of employment. I sat there and drank my free coors light(yuck).
First time I’ve had tacos and crab cake sliders at a hockey game.
The tacos were f***ing awesome though.
The game was not.
Felt really odd not booing when it was called for.

MM no point again, how did he play? Is it some kind of bad luck streak atm or struggles to keep going his early pace?

He obviously had a big game yesterday. However, Tippett is a flawed player. He is a one dimensional goal scorer. His goals predominantly come from individual plays using his speed. He lacks the ability to play off of his linemates. To jump into soft spots in coverage and get open on cycle plays. A lot of it is also coaching. As the Flyers are one of the worst coached teams in the NHL offensively. Both 5 on 5 and on the PP. Other than a forecheck and individual improvisation. They have no offensive structure. They don't work scoring triangles, don't effectively move the puck and switch sides and all the other strategies than lead to quality 5 on 5 opportunity. There is nothing wrong with a 25-28 goal scorer. That player certainly has value. However combined with the limitations of his offensive game and his normally putrid play away from the puck. It was a mistake to sign Tippett to an 8 year deal. He is not a player worthy of that term
et Tippett is 25, Probably reaching the point that what you see is what you get

Tippett created both of Frost's goals, he's the one who drives that line. TK makes as many brain dead plays as Tippett, but he wasn't traded for G, so he gets a pass. Both players are similar in that they produce more offense than they allow on defense, and just as important, flip the ice on a regular basis. Tippett has incrementally improved, at times now he looks to pass too much, but he has become a better passer. 25-30 goals a year is easily worth $6m.

Frost has a good shot, starting to think he's misplaced at center, might be better at LW where he could focus more on scoring and less on driving a line. Problem is Couts also needs to move to LW, and Lycksell deserves a shot.

Lycksell looked really good, last year he was serviceable, this year he looks like he's taken a step up. Started slow in LHV, but kept improving and finished on a hot streak before being called up. If he can sustain this kind of play, Briere will have to make some tough decisions.

Ersson and Kolosov must drive Torts stone raving mad. Two or three really tough saves followed by a "Mr Softee" at the worst possible times. Growing pains.

Cates has been playing really well since he was put on a line with Brink and Foerster.
He's faster this year, top speed 22.43, up from 22.01, 21.78 the previous two years.
And he has great hands in terms of puck control and retrieval.

Zamula and Drysdale not a good idea.

Oh those faceoffs? NST
Cates won 11 of 16
Frost 7 of 16
Laughton 6 of 16

Played well enough. Had the 3rd assist on the Cates goal. Also, tj missed a breakaway pass from him and he had a spin pass to the crease that created a chance. Pp was beyond useless though (not shocking), not his fault though

Neither Tippett or Konency produce more offensively than they give up. Frost is not a shooter, he is a playmaker and his best position is center.

That really was another poorly played hockey game. Mostly pond hockey on all sides. The lack of structure and strategy is appalling. Good teams have that; the Flyers aren't even close to it. Tortorella & Co. have been here about two and a half seasons and the play on the ice is still the same. Based upon that evidence it is doubtful that things will change as long as he's here. When you think about it, just what has Tortorella & Co done to hang their hat on here? Installing culture? The culture of poor play and haranguing the players. Last night a player who has been alluded to being a toilet seat won the game for them with his play. Great coaching there.

The clear Flyers bigger issue is a lack of talent. However, it doesn't take a high level of talent for a team to be solid defensively. This coach hangs his hat on defensive play. It's all he know yet the team is the 3rd worst defensive team in the league. I see the same mistakes over and over. I said it during the first season Tortorella was here. They will go nowhere with him involved. Hiring him has set this franchise back. He is the equivalent of a high priced interim coach. He did what Yeo should've done.

Where'd you get that picture of me?
Though that would have been decades ago, the CRT is an accurate take.

This is a myth. Torts is not a defense first coach, that would be more Hakstol.

He stresses defensive fundamentals as the base off which players should take chances, for example, he encourages D-men to be aggressive in the O-zone, but expects the forwards to be aware of a D-men low and to swing high to cover for him.

Most of his teams were never among the top in defense.
