I don’t think this game was as bad as people are making it out to be. Panarin scored, Mika scored, and Kreider scored. Igor had a bad night but it’s his first game back in weeks. Focus on Tampa, that is gonna be a challenge.

no it wasn’t at all. We blew the game. Strome had it on his stick twice in the third.

shesterkin absolutely whiffed on a muffin with 9 mins to go in a 2-2 game on the road

and frankly we should have won that game in the first period

we blew it.

Chytil never really did anything to prove that he can be a contributor on a good team in the NHL. He's going to be playing in Europe before he turns 30. He's not better now than Lindberg was.
I really feel like (now that you mentioned the name) that Lindberg had a more positive impact on the ice in some capacity than Chytil does. Chytil just gets bullied out there. He doesn’t do anything particularly well. Ok, maybe he skates well. But thats just not enough for his occupation.

Can’t we just complaint about the game they just played without it turning into hot takes and sweeping indictments of the organization? They played well enough to win today but didn’t capitalize on all of their chances and Shesty was just okay. Plenty of chances to win this game, arguably the better team all night.

It doesn’t need to mean Drury sucks, the rebuild is a failure and Lafreniere is Pavel Brendl.

This team is a work in progress and finding their way. They’re also comfortably in a playoff spot and will surely go on more winning streaks. They’re far from being a great team but they’re also not as bad as some of the complaining would make you think. They’re a work in progress.

They didn't play well enough to win, they played well enough to lose.

Oh, and I wouldn't get so comfortable about that playoff spot with the way they have been playing and the strength of schedule they have ahead of them.

Still don’t understand the love of Kravtsov. Not even a point a game in the KHL. He certainly doesn’t want to be here. Lias Anderson situation. He is not all that, dump him

Neither did the back checking forward Strome.
Yup

complete controller disconnection on the duclair goal. The only thing Strome does well is put the puck in the net and he couldn’t even do that tonight. And with a few golden opportunities to boot

Strome makes panarin look like Bergeron defensively

The lack of talent is starting to become massively obvious…

Watch the islanders catch us …

Lafrenniere and Chytil’s bust development has destroyed this club additionally the deal for grit giving up talent in Buchenvich has come back to bite us like Ridley - Miller …

there’s a Sather stench all over that deal
And 11 years of 8 goal Barclay goodruw…

The KHL is a significantly lower scoring league than the NHL, practically nobody is a point a game player in the KHL. I guess Panarin, Kaprizov, Kuznetsov, Buchnevich all sucked too.

I see the hot takes are flying in again. Probably doesn't help that it's a holiday season loss after such a long break but damn.

No excuses- NYR didn't deserve to win this game- but this isn't the season ending apocalypse. It's a reality check, and something the team needs to figure out to determine what the play is come the trade deadline.

So Duclair, a player the rangers gave up on, gets his 10th of the year on the ES GWG.

Yet the biggest takeaway is that the rangers continue to get outshot/not generate enough offense, a characteristic of this team that now clearly transcends different coaching and management personel. That is a really concerning point about this team and with so much of the roster locked up long term I don’t see how you fix it outside of a blockbuster trade which is so rare in the current NHL.

They didn’t play well enough to win... not sure which game you were watching but aside from a pair of superhuman plays from Panarin the entire lineup did squat

They had plenty of chances. Strome breakaway to make it 3-1 would’ve iced the game. Gauthier had an open net miss, Zib had a ton of chances in tight, Hunt had an open net miss. Both PPs were littered with near misses. We had tons of chances. Florida did too but they’re a good team, it was a relatively even game.

Shesterkin wasn’t his usual clean self, the go ahead 3rd goal in particular was a gift, it was a softie that everyone would’ve been lynching Georgiev (rightfully so) for.

Still made it a one goal game with a chance. We played better tonight than we did when we best Florida. Plus we had McKegg in there for Rooney and Hajek playing first pair in Lindgren’s place.

That the Rangers came that close--were really one Sergei Bobrovsky having an out of body night--in that kind of game and down some key players is encouraging.

At the start of this season, I thought the Rangers would be somewhere between 3rd-5th in their division, likely between 5-9th in the East. This team's still got a ways to go and games like this a big part of that growth. You've got veterans who've gotten used to playing without any expectations or competition from within, mixed with kids who get all the pressure to perform and none of the opportunity. The defense has really intriguing individual parts, but the sum is lesser.

It's a strange team... less than a team at the moment.

Personnel discussion notwithstanding, this team, this organization needs a paradigm shift to a heavy skill game to compete in the long run. The finesse game they've built the last few seasons on isn't going to cut it if they want to be a big boy perennial contender. Right now it's just weak pond hockey.
