Sam could have lost his voice and jeopardized his career by uttering "It's a PowerPlay Goal" with that Straka-Nylander-Jagr troika. Over and Over and Over hahaha.

I was 3 years old :).

It's just unreal. I really hope our generation of fans experiences a Cup. It's also insane to think, just how close we really were to a Final 2 years ago. 2 games, 2 ****ing games. ****

I swear, if we ever win the Cup, I will cry. I teared up when I watched the '94 win documentary, just chills.

It isn't an exaggeration to say it would likely be the greatest moment of my life (considering I'm still a teenager and not married yet, no kids, etc).

I was at the MTS Center on the morning of one of the days the Rangers were here in Winnipeg to play the Jets and I saw Sam and Joe walk out of the main concourse. Sam saw me wearing my Rangers jersey and came right over and shook my hand. We talked about the Rangers a bit and then we walked with him to the employee entrance to go watch the closed Rangers practice that I had been invited to. I swear I was more excited to meet Sam then I was to see the Rangers practicing! Super nice guy! I hope he's around for a good while yet!

It's my favorite line in sports!

Oh man, nostalgia.

i thought id never see Tom Poti in a Rangers uniform again lol. imagine if that is the return the Rangers will get for Callahan if traded

I was two days old. A great call but it really does hold true for some of us.

I was 9, watching it on Eurosport in the middle of the night. Summer holiday so no school and I was allowed to watch most games of that Conf. and SC final. A feeling I will never forget. Still, such a vivid memory. Followed by the FIFA World Cup, at the same ridiculous hours. That year I lost my ability to sleep haha.

That jagr video said

"Jagr's 21st POWERPLAY GOAL of the season"

Let that sink in for a second.

The guy is simply not human.

Back to the game, I found it hiarlious how giddy Sam got that JD surprised him

Jagr finished 2nd that year with 24 PPGs behind Kovalchuk who had 27 PPGs that year. Selanne also scored 25 the year after. Only 2 players to beat him IIRC in PPGs post lockout in a single season.

Sam's enthusiasm, especially after powerplay goals definitely got me hooked into hockey. Thanks Sam.

"This one will last a life time!" -- was 5 years old. :(

I was 46. On my knees in front of the TV with a bottle of champagne which I didn't open until the clock was actually 0:00

I grew up listening to Win Elliott and then Jim Gordon on WOR Ch 9

Best in the business. Ranger games just aren't the same without him.

Speaking of all the times people complain about Sam "losing it" did any of you notice what kind of a ridiculous difference it was in the first few minutes of the game when Al and Dougay were announcing and what it sounded like the second Sam popped on the air? It was like comparing pee wee hockey to the stanley cup finals.

Sam is just a nice, decent man who happens to have the greatest job in the world.

He has talent, cares deeply about his work and the people on this team, and it shows.

That's what also made 1994 so great. No national games for NY area. All games on Msg with Sam and JD!

The only thing I hate about the playoffs.

Having to listen to Doc Emrick and the rest of the bozos on NBCSN.

Sams been with me my whole life.... My earliest Ranger memories are Vanbiesbrooks rookie season ....But there very fuzzy I was about 6 at that time.....I was 14 in 94 ... I watched every game.... Have them recorded and stored away somewhere on VHS at my Moms place....My Dad took me to the parade a cpl days later.... I hope to go to it again someday sooner rather then later

Absolutely. Last night was especially interesting where Al was doing play by play for a couple minutes while Sam came back upstairs. Granted, Al isn't a play by play guy, but he was doing play by play, but then Sam comes on, mentions somebody is behind the net, here's a pass up front, and there was something different about it. It's like ****ing magic.

When Sam retires, it will be Kenny replacing him. Kenny is real good on TV doing hockey. Hopefully, he gets to bring Maloney with him.
