Torts just can’t resist digging at a player and making everything about himself. He’s a narcissistic asshole.

Giving Andrae an occasional game off to allow him some extra rest and recovery time is fine, but there was no need or justification to publicly criticize his play.

Furthermore, Torts is also a hypocrite.

Laughton’s play has been shit for the entire season. When does he get scratched?
You're that eager to get DeLo back into the lineup?

Torts does this a lot, tries to take pressure off young players.

Publicly calling out someone's play doesn't take pressure off of them. "I thought he could use a game off to keep his legs fresh and to review live play with a coach" is taking pressure off of someone. "I wanted to get Egor some time on ice, and felt this was a good place to work him in" is taking pressure off of someone. "Yeah, he's playing like shit" is calling someone out. That puts more pressure on most people, it doesn't alleviate it.

Just like every coach, he just - to unreasonable extent/justification - dislikes some players (Andrae, Frost) and likes others (Cates, Hathaway, Tippet).
He dislikes Andrae so much he's giving him 2nd pair minutes (ahead of Seeler) as a rookie.
Andrae 19:26
Seeler 16:33

Jeez.

It's about performance vs being benched relation not just flat out time on ice or pairings.

I am amateur floorball player with 0 exposure to media and even then being benched for performance reasons --> taking pressure off seems like a link that can only be drawn by someone desperately trying to maintain the narrative. In this case, narrative being that Torts is making all the right decisions.

Zamula has been fine after a slow start, just needed to speed up his decision making.

I think Torts likes to sit a young player once in a while even when he's happy with the player so they can see the game - it's a different perspective they can take back to the ice.

In the case of Andrae, you also want to pace him, he's undersized and takes a lot of punishment.
And the schedule is more brutal this year b/c of compression due to 4 nations
Funny how you spin what I told you they should do with prospects to get them time in the NHL as what they are doing here like it's their modus operandi.

Yeah I think it’s safe to say Andrae’s play has dipped a little but he’s still at least the 5th best dman on this team! Lol

I assume he’ll be back soon, so I don’t really totally hate this, but when it comes from Torts you just wonder

Detroit a good example of a team that garnered a couple top players by drafting high, then decided "Mission accomplished."

2017: #9 Rasmussen
2018: #6 Zedina, #30 Veleno
2019: #6 Seider
2020: #4 Raymond
2021: #6 Edvivsson, #15 Cossa
2022: #8 Kasper
2023: #9 Danielson, #17 Sandin-Pellikka

Their best player, Larkin, was #15-2014.

Yzerman's major deals:
2/24/20 Gagner, 2020 2nd, 2021 2nd for Athanasiou
9/26/20 Staal, 2021 2nd rd for salary dump
4/12/21 2021 1st, 2022 2nd, Vrana for Mantha
7/6/21 Leddy for Panik, 2021 2nd
3/21/22 2023 2nd, Sundqvist, Wallman for Leddy
7/3/22 Copp, FA 5yr/$5.6M
7/13/22 Chariot, FA 4yr/$4.75M
3/1/23 2023 1st, 2023 2nd for Hronek & 4th
3/2/23 2024 1st, 2025 4th for Bertuzzi

7/1/23 Compher, FA, 5/$5.1M
7/1/23 Holl, FA, 3/$3.4M
7/9/23 DeBrincat for 2024 1st (Boston)
8/15/23 Petry for Lindstrom, 2025 4th
11/28/23 Kane, FA 1yr/$4M
6/25/24 salary dump for Wallman, 2024 2nd
7/1/24 Gustfasson, 2yr/$2M
7/3/24 Tarasenko FA 2/$4.75M

7 picks in the top 10, $30M in free agent contracts, and they're still not a playoff team.

I am with you more than most on this point, but you are off base. They don’t have a top 3 pick there.

Seeler 16:33

Jeez.

Seeler had a fighting major. We had several PP. Sanhiem and Seeler were in the box at the same time for a PK.

Andre has been around 100% best possible outcome so far. No need to say he’s been bad. Makes a lot more sense to play it down to the media. Torts is an asshole - there’s no denying that.
