Sigh. I just really really ****ing hate fantasy hockey for what it's done to the fans. Doughty has been fine. He's really had to change his role a bit. He's got to eat a lot of minutes and play a whole hell of a lot more with Greene and Mitchie out. Plus minus is a useless stat IMO. Has Doughty been Norris Doughty that we all want? No. But he's been fine for the most part.
before DD's draft, who did we get mad at for scoring the goal to win a game that made the Kings slip to #2 and miss out on Stamkos?
Was it Handzus?

“I know I’m minus-10 though. But a lot of times that stat doesn’t have a lot to do with what you’re doing on the ice and stuff like that.â€
“He’s a young defenseman, so what has changed?†Sutter began. “He’s got a lot to learn. No different than all the rest. Our oldest defenseman is Scuderi who is supposed to be a real good defensive player. Our next oldest is Drewiske. He’s 28 and learning how to play. And the other guys are all kids. Don’t single Drew Doughty out as the only player that has got a lot to learn. He’s been put in a different situation this year than he has at any other point in his career.â€
Of active players DD plays the second most minutes at 26:16 and is a -5. Sutter is ahead of him in mins played but is a minus -6.
DD has been our #1d all season long and has had to mentor several different players. It is his 5th season in the NHL and he is 23 years old.
If anything I think that DD under these circumstances should be being considered as a Norris Candidate instead of having his play come into question.
Not sure how you can imply conditioning was an issue from the start this season. The reports from camp were that he was in some of the best shape ever coming into a season. The problem was that he was playing upwards of 30 minutes a game against the toughest competition of each team. Of course he's not going to look perfect while doing that.Last 9 games he has been +6. He has been playing much better as of late. I think conditioning will always be a problem with Doughty as will slow starts.
