I agree, he should be in the top 5. Mathews is a top 25 player in the league, but not this year.

Only guy he should be ahead of is Rantanen. They're producing the same amount while Marner is elite defensively + playing in a system less conducive to point production

The rest have all been better than Marner this year

Matthews perhaps will be healthy after the break ... if he's not back on IR.

It’s kind of jarring to see Matthews updated ranking like that. I totally agree he’s outside the top 20 when he’s been injured and posting up a PPG, mediocre as hell season, but you still see him promoted via superstar treatment, media coverage, Team USA captaincy and all those status-y things that make you think top 3-5 player. To see 23rd in print it really drives it home.

It’s a ranking compiled from the inputs of people that don’t watch every game and don’t know everything about every player.
