3/4 of the League has been in the Finals since '00

  • Sportsbook will reset after the Cup is won
The sports teams all have "Tampa Bay" in the name, although the name of the city is Tampa (that said, the Tampa Bay Rays' ballpark is in the city of St. Petersburg).
yup and since I'm a SW coast of Florida resident only a couple of hours away I call everything from the area Tampa :). One less word to type/speak :)

btw: so do all of my neighbors....

FWIW: busting chops after a bunch of leg work was put in to produce that content is well, not right.

Most fan bases get to enjoy a Finals run but it takes 25 years. 14 teams have won, 24 total have been in the Finals. Only 8 franchises have not made the Finals. Tampa, Pittsburgh and New Jersey have been the most frequent at 4 or more:

Even though you're looking at the past 25 years you mine as well go ahead and just put 1967 to the right the Leafs. :help:

I keep being told my Oilers suck. We're on both good lists. Sucks we lost 3 finals but our total here is 9.

Montreal would be at 8 total on these charts. Pretty sure we are first! I only mention it because there is another thread saying we are losers for going 0 for 3 in 2000's. If we are losers, who are the winners? We didn't even join the league till 1979.

If we start there.. Montreal is at 5. They won in 1979 as well but we were at least in the league.

Not trolling but Toronto may be the worst hockey franchise of the near 60 year window now. It's astounding how much worse they perform than basically everyone else over any sort of long stretch.

Even look at something not overly impressive like Last 4 (now Conference Finals). Since Expansion, only 1978, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2002. One decent little stretch from '93 - '02 and in all those they lost the Stanley Cup Final loser, that's it.

Obviously 2000 is a nice round number so it's fine to start this thread with "since 00", but keep in mind Buffalo did make the finals literally in 1999.

From the others:

Minnesota, Utah, Winnipeg, Columbus and Seattle are all either expansion teams and/or relocating teams.

Which only leaves 2 teams with really long gaps:

NY Islanders. Yup, everyone knows it. Fantastic dynasty in the 80s with 4 straight cups, but it has been a long while, with no finals since 84.

Toronto - which is just a laughing stock, with no finals since 67.
Well, technically Utah has never made the Finals since coming into the league in 1979. But with all the weird stuff happening with some franchises keeping their history and some cities holding it instead, or whatever teams are choosing to do, it gets a little muddled with relocations.

So, yeah. Toronto and NYI stick out. Though it's getting a little late in their lifetimes for expansion teams like CBJ or Minny to use being new as an excuse.
