I think expecting anybody to be a lifer that early in their career is crazy. Even without all the turmoil going on right now, I would be hard pressed to even consider guys like Staal and Ward lifers. It rarely happens at all these days. Even Brodeur may not, and he's in the absolute twilight of his career.

As for the game, I watched the 1st period, and the end of the 3rd and OT after I woke up on the couch. I liked the effort in the parts of the game I saw. And I was excited that we won. Whatever happens now or in the offseason will happen, but I do like watching a win a lot more than a loss. It's nice to feel good about certain parts of the future for a night when Khudobin performs pretty well, and Lindholm has one of his flashes of excellence nights.

I just realized something. We swept San Jose. That's pretty cool.

And good for Harrison scoring the winner, hopefully that boosts his confidence.

^ yep that was nice to see him score that. really for a bottom pairing dman for $1.5m., a guy who has some size and will stand up for himself and the guys once in a while, I don't mind Harrison at all. not going to get anyone different to fill his roll and the guy is pretty durable too.

I watched this game last night on the DVR, and, thanks to all of you for keeping comments about it contained in this thread, did not know the outcome beforehand. Gotta say, you could see the difference in the team right away...they looked like Eric Staal does when he cares. They looked like a team that had something to play for. What I just don't get is why this team too often doesn't look like that...and why it seems to happen at critical junctures in their season. It happened under Laviolette, Maurice, and now Muller.

I don't follow other hockey teams, so maybe it's more endemic than I'm aware of, but it sure seems like this team has an unusual issue with showing up consistently.

While we did look like we finally gave a damn, keep in mind that we actually match up very well against SJ's style of play (as odd as that may be).

I don't see Jeff being a lifer either. Who even knows if Cam will be at this point. Of course Eric wouldn't want to go somewhere where he'd have to show up every night either.

Absolutely shocking that we showed up for a good team we should have lost to. 9th place here we come! I really hope that happens, because it would be too funny at this point.

I say we start Cam Friday to ruin all the momentum we can.
