There are those that don't agree with your assessment (or maybe it's just semantics on the words used). I've read the same in multiple places, but here's one that's close to home. Canes Draft Profile:

http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=771259

That's what I was referring to when I said more well rounded "at this stage".

Wow. I remember that now that you point it out but that's just shocking to read.

Frankly a bit concerning that our head scout may legitimately believe that, but he was probably just saying nice things about Provorov to say nice things about Provorov.

I haven't seen a WHOLE lot of Provorov (a fair amount though) but nothing I've seen suggests that he's more well-rounded than Noah. Noah's way better defensively and Provorov is slightly better offensively, despite whatever Craig Button would say about that.

I honestly haven't seen much of Provorov as well, so was just going off of what I heard/read in multiple outlets. The Canes Scouts aren't the only ones that had that view (about Provorov being more ready now) as I'd seen/heard it a few other places elsewhere as well. Not a big deal though as the Canes ended up with Hanifin in the end and my point was more that picking Hanifin wasn't really a safe pick, he was the BPA and really the ONLY pick.

I thought Provorov was as good a choice as Hanifin. I would've been fine if we let Hanifin slip further and took him. I think he is more poised with the puck and overall more well rounded. I think Hanifin is more explosive a skater but Provorov is actually better laterally with great puck control. Time will tell and I'm perfectly happy with Hanifin, but I was a little jealous to see him go somewhere else.

Bleed, did you get a chance to go to the Red and White scrimmage yesterday? If so, I'm not sure you'd be at all disappointed in our Hanifin selection. His "thinking the game" yesterday was outstanding. Yup, he made a play or two that remind you of his age, but boy the way that kid "skates and thinks" all at once (insert appropriate walking and chewing gum joke here) was incredible. He seemed to know just where to pass to, when to skate out of the zone, and when to get his offensive jets rolling. He was guilty of letting Wallmark get behind him which led to a 3 on none break away, but overall he was better than anybody else on the ice yesterday.

Not having seen any of Provorov's recent play I cannot tell if he's at the same level currently. All I do know is that Hanifin is a keeper and will likely (and rightly so) make the big club out of camp.

Never said I was disappointed in Hanifin. At all. I'm looking forward to watching him. Just saying I wouldn't have minded Provorov either. It'll be fun to watch them both develop.

Well after watching Hanifin in the prospects camp and at the scrimmage yesterday, I probably let my fanboy come out to vociferously. I don't think I would have been disappointed in Provorov either (even would have considered trading down a slot or two because he was one of the consolation prizes). Still, I am duly impressed with our boy Noah.

Sebastian Aho had a great night yesterday. Scored 1+1 shorthanded on a single penalty, in the assist showing great patience especially. He added two assists on even strength to make it a 4 point night. He is his teams second leading scorer as an 18-year old with seven goals and seven assists in 16 games.

Here's the link to the shorthanded goals: http://www.ruutu.fi/video/2250405

And here's the rest of the highlights: http://www.ruutu.fi/video/2250453

Videos won't work with ******* i'm afraid. Sebastian is #16 wearing white.

Quick question--why does Mika Niemi have on a golden helmet? I would assume some kind of advertising promotion? Or maybe to show he is a captain?

Roughly 1/3 of the regular season is done in Finland and Sebastian Aho leads the league +/- with +12. His points are 17gp 7+8=15. ATOI 16:48.

He's been more impressive than I thought he would be at this point of his career. The best thing about it is that his game looks like it should adapt to any hockey environment. He makes quick decisions and is committed to move the puck if there's a chance to do it. Just like a modern puck possession players are supposed to do.

If he didn't suffer any serious injuries, why is he out for a while? By serious, do you mean it's not as bad as the situation initially looked while he is still injured?
