I dont understand the big need for a 2nd line LW. We need a 2nd line RW, I am more inclined going into the season with Sedin on 1st line and Baertschi on the 2nd than only have Louie as a RW. Hansen is best suited on the 3rd line IMO, Virtanen in a lesser role on the 4th line or A season to fully Develop in the AHL and then there is Etem in the mix. No real stand out candidate for the 2nd line, Unless Rodin really impresses.

So you expect a team to lose an asset for an inferior one AND still lose someone else to the expansion draft, rather than just losing one person to the draft?

Okay then

I don't think you can make a blanket statement like that. I get your point, the OP is being quite optimistic, but there will be some teams with cap considerations and roster considerations where the drop off between the guy they keep and the guy they expose is considerable enough (or obvious who LV would take) that gaining something (pick) and losing the next best guy (possibly with significant salary) makes the most sense.

Canucks won't make a move. No point now.

This.
Vancouver is primed for a waiver claim, the Coil have brought in Versteeg on PTO and are up there in contracts, Toronto is in similar position while having to be aware of their cap with LTIR on a few guys being a big difference for them.
Vancouver has a bunch of open contract spots, they have #3 waiver claim from being the 3rd suckiest team last year. Lots of teams will be cutting some guys, even NHL level players. Considering the Canucks should be moving Granlund to Sutter's wing to spread some offensive creativity out and acquire a more defensive centre for the 4th line. Otherwise grabbing a potential winger wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

Don't worry; you'll have all year to get a player on waivers. Well as long as you don't go over the cap

Hartnell available for late first or non ready high B level prospect and a 2nd likely around deadline. Has mentored the CBJ youngsters incredibly well and would be great for guys like Boesser and JV. He helped out Dano to the point of being a key piece of the Saad trade and Wennberg has gotten much better. After Wennberg improved in his time 2ith Hartsy he was moved up and wild bill 2as put with him and he made some great strides of.improvement as well. I honestly want to keep him and put him on a line of Hartnell/PLD/Bjorkstrand because the grit, playmaking, and production of that line with the way Hartnell has lead with teaching these guys to be pros I think he could create 2 calder candidates out of them.

No Hartnell is not a dump.
No Hartnell is not overpaid.
No Hartnell is not an anchor.
No Hartnell is not declining.
No Hartnell is not getting slower.
No Hartnell being traded is.not you doing us a favor.

We have more players ready for spots then we have spots on the team basically and the only reason we move him is to make room for one of them so taking any roster player back does not work. That includes D because believe it or not we have 3 excellent U23 defensemen 1 really good 25 or 26 year old. 1 JMFJ who is actually pictured in the dictionary under the word misunderstood because they only know the old stories from LA and.not the one where he is finally being used correctly and for the right amount of time as a 2nd pair defender who is currently playing well for his country. Speaking of playong for their country 2 of the 3 U23 guys are also playing for team NA and the other 1 of the 3 U23 guys the current record holder for points as a rookie in the AHL playoffs and reigning WJC best defender will be our #5 most likely to start the year so something like Sbisa can't happen. Sorry that turned into excitement for my team and bragging about maybe finally having a.chance for a 1st round playoff win if we somehow make it haha. But still it's reasons why we can't take a roster player.

Basically tl;dr Hartnell is available for a late first and meh prospect OR 2nd and a top B prospect not NHL ready.

The Canucks are likely to protect 7 forwards during the LV Expansion Draft but they easily could easily risk exposing the 6th or 7th forward they would normally protect if could acquire a 2nd line LW whom the Canucks would need to protect instead.

Rather than lose a forward they would like to protect for nothing, which teams are going to be hard pressed to protect all the forwards they would like to protect and who would be willing to trade a 2nd line LW for a Canuck player who will be exempt in the draft?

I'm thinking of Canuck players such as Garteig, Stecher, Subban, Brisebois, Cederholm or Cassels. The Canucks will be expecting a much better, skilled player, but the other team doesn't end up with nothing, but at least a young player with potential.

Good luck with that. Haha
