It really is basically...
Sam Bennett: if he actually leaves Florida for a Brinks truck payday.
Brock Nelson: probably just ends up in Minnesota.
Matt Duchene: can't see him leaving Dallas where he's found a terrific fit.
John Tavares: PJ Boy is hard to see leaving the Leafs.
Mikael Granlund: not really a contender caliber Top-6C.
Ryan Donato: sucker bait who had a wild outlier career year at 28 or whatever on a terrible team where someone has to score.
Then via trade it's basically...
Marco Rossi: basically cancels because that'd almost certainly mean they landed Brock Nelson.
Trevor Zegras: if a team wants to pay big for a risky proposition and if the Ducks brass don't think he's big enough, tough enough, plays the right way enough.
Matt Barzal: if the Isles really want to retool and free up some cap to play with now the Lou is gone.
There's just...like half the league looking for another Top-6 Center right now. And that list above isn't even close to satisfying the demand. That's why half the posts on this trade board these days are just...proposals for trying to make a deal for a guy who isn't even likely to be available to plug that 2C hole. Too many teams on the cusp, bubble teams even, and lacking a bonafide Top-6C.
