Speculation: 2C Options

Who are you going to replace Rossi with in the 2C spot once he is traded?
Breo
Duchene - Dallas has gotta be his favorite to sign but they will have to make moves. Dumba for example can be moved to create space.

Tavares - Sounds like he wants to stay in Toronto

Donato - is he just a left Winger now? (Chicago player for those that don't know)

Nelson - he's going to get paid!

Granlund - I'd be careful on how much he gets paid but if a team needs a playmaker and can afford to give him good zone starts will produce.

Giroux - ???

Sam Bennett - Florida has to be a favorite but they may not have the cap space for him.

Then we go into 3Cs like

Pius Suter, Roslovic etc.

The NHL right now is lacking top 6 centers.
Nelson is going to MN. Bill Guerin has essentially mad eit known Nelson is to get . Nelson also wants to be back home

Brock Nelson?

Personally if I am Minnesota have have reservations about Rossi's size I move him to wing and don't trade him. He just seems to have Martin St Louis vibes about him.

Yep, this isn't the year for Calgary to make a move imo. If anything they should be looking at trading Backlund and Kadri if the market is this strong.

I'd love Bennett back on the team but I know it would be an objectively terrible decision.
A good example is Bennett. You know that next contract will age badly, however for 2 or 3 years you might get some value from it (50 pts in regular season then value in the post season). Then the last 4 or 5 years it will be an albatross. Nelson is similar. You might get a year or 2 of 2C level play before he falls off a cliff.

For teams that have a 2 or 3 year cup window, it makes sense to overpay for short term gain. For teams with a longterm window like the Habs / Flames etc. it would be an unforced error of epic proportions and create cap issues down the road.

Presumably Brock Nelson but Hartman/Yurov are the most likely internal solutions if Nelson doesn’t get signed and Rossi isn’t traded for a C.
Would be smart for Minny to sign Nelson and then trade Rossi at the highest value he every could be.

Not sure I agree, but I think that’s the most likely outcome. I have reservations about Rossi being worth a big extension longterm, but he wasn’t deployed in a manner to maximize his trade value. A surprising amount of his production came away from Kaprizov

Kuch in his comments went out of his way to say this, which implies he thinks it and didn't say it because he was asked a dumb question.
Players peak has a bigger range these days, but saying Hagel has peaked already when he's 26 feels far fetched when he's been constantly improving season after season.
He'll have a 100 points season in the next couple of years, especially if he'll play with more offensive talented linemates than Cirelli and whoever filled the revolving door 2RW spot for Tampa this season
Again, it’s his teammate. He likes the guy. I wouldn’t take it as gospel.

And again, I’m not saying Hagel won’t score more points if put in the right situations or with the right shooting luck. I’m saying his overall impact has likely peaked. I don’t measure overall impact by scoring totals.
