It isn't a controversy. Tortorella started Biron twice in a row once when he was hot.

You ride the hot goalie. Especially at a time when Henrik has Olympic games to play and hasn't been at his best.

Bingo. Wins are hard to come by as of late, so you start the goalie who has given you the better chance to win recently.

You guys don't think Hank takes it as a slight that Talbot starts back-to-back games when the Rangers don't play again 'til Thursday? Dude's a workhorse. He wants to play. I get that it's an Olympic year, but starting Talbot tonight ISN'T because of that. It's because right now, AV likes Talbot better. That says controversy to me.

Whatever. This I'm sure is another argument on HF that I'll lose.

I don't believe that AV, in his first season is going to supplant the team's legend goaltender with a .918 sv% by a 26 year old rookie. No.

Henrik will play many more games. Cam is getting to play now because he hasn't lost in what seems to be 2 months.

And if Cam wins tonight, who does he go with in Buffalo on Thursday?

Soon we'll be talking about getting Cam rest since he's off to play for team Canada ;)

AV didn't create a controversy. Lundqvist did, by playing like ****.

Anyways.... would it be too much to ask to go 2 games over .500?

If Cam wins every game the rest of this season, I'd be okay with it. But he won't.

If Hank is pissed Cam starts tonight, here is what he has to do about it: Start playing like Hank and justify the 9Mill contract he's asking for. Get pissed, get better.

I've not been amongst those blaming Hank for the Rangers losing games, but come on, he is a better goalie than he has shown so far this year.

Also, i think it's fair to reward Cam for his solid play. Henrik will still end up playing 50+ NHL games, plus the olympics plus the playoffs. He'll get enough starts.

I guess that the team in front of him plays no part in this?
They just seem to play better defensively for Cam than they do for Hank (Oh yeah, not to mention that they actually score more than 1 goal too).

He should get his head out of his ass and start stopping the puck if he wants to play.

This team needs to get away from the Lundqvist caccoon for a while and learn how to play as a team on thin ice, so when Hank does come back in his groove, we will be firing on all cylinders like a well oiled machine with the best goalie in the world. AV wants to see tighter D and more cohesion amongst our group. LGR.

I believe Torts first full season here he did this and Hank responded well. Marty was hot. Ride the hot hand. No reason to go crazy.

Good for Talbot, he deserves this start after his performances thus far. An angry Hank might take this team to another level. There are plenty of games left. Hank will play his share of games.

Hank is the most competitive guy on the team. This will only make him BETTER. Relax everyone. We have a capable backup who has played well and deserves the start. Its a good litmus test for the team and himself.

So to you, this means Hank is going to get upset, start throwing games, and not gonna re-sign with the Rangers?

Hank's a team guy, love his respnse Cam has played very well he deserves the start, no doubt Hank will use this as motivation

I have confidence in both goalies but I want to see the team play more cohesively in front of hank.

This goes back to Giacomin-Villemure, team always had cxonfidence in Eddie, so they played better defensively when Villemure played

I agree. Hopefully it pisses him off and allows him to kick it into overdrive. Maybe it guilts the the team into giving better efforts with Hank in net. Lundqvist seems like the last guy to get this to become a distraction which is the only risk. Good move by AV.

Considering how subpar the team plays in front of him, he's hardly played like "****."

No problem going with Cam, and I doubt there's a controversy brewing, but AV would be in for a rude awakening if he thinks its a good idea to not go with the best goalie in the league consistently.

This is huge.

I believe the team becomes too complacent with Hank in net. They see a god-like performance from him in Dallas and think their own mistakes can be corrected by him. He is human just like anyone else and isn't ALWAYS going to be playing perfect.

Mike Richter said it best back in 1993 during a December interview in Central Park on MSG…

"A goalie is only as good as the team in front of him"

Regardless of the team in front of Lundqvist, he hasn't played the way he's capable of. Combine that with the fact that Talbot is red hot, and the decision to start Talbot tonight is perfectly reasonable.

I'm glad AV doesn't give two craps what the media is gonna do with this story. Bottom line is giving his team the best shot to win and getting the most out of his players.
