Well, it's officially official with Toronto winning. So I guess we are the first ones to talk about it. History made.

Annoying that they get a 12-game point streak and still have to get a lot of help. This team...

If the play wasn't so utterly horrid earlier in the season, the streak would have us discussing playoff positioning for the first round rather than hoping against hope that we run the table or Boston collectively falls down a manhole or something.

...but eliminating the hated Wings feels good man. I remember 2002 and Brett Hull's big mouth.

Regardless, these players are getting to experience what it feels like to perform well in must-win situations. That's awesome for them and we get to take that away from this season no matter what.

Next challenge -- do the same against good teams who need it just as bad. Our last big winning streak ended in disaster when they got smoked during a difficult stretch. Let's see how they respond this time. It's a pretty good benchmark for their progress this season.

The Canes are now a season-high 7 games over NHL .500.

It's interesting to note that the team hasn’t been that many games over NHL .500 at any point since the end of the 2010-2011 season.

Not even necessarily that, as much as out of a possible 26 points against the 5 worst teams in the league after tonight, we'll have picked up a grand total of 12, and that's only boosted by picking up 5 of the last 6 possible points.

4 - 7 - 4

Switch that to even a mediocre 7-4-4 against the worst teams in the league and this team is in the playoffs right now.

Less than 10,000 attendance. At what point will anyone else in the area become aware that the team is playing great hockey?

As AD said, when they start showing they are comfortably in a playoff spot. This year will be tough no matter what, because most fans have already checked out. The Canes pretty much acknowledged that they weren't going to make it by being a seller at the deadline.

Yeah, I don't think it works that way. People don't check out of the season, then come running back because you had a hot streak at the very end. Actually making it into the playoffs would be one thing, but otherwise this is just the patented "too little too late" run which we have seen before.

It's also happening in the middle of March Madness with Carolina in a dramatic Final Four run, so not even the main focus of the local sports scene ATM. If we're still hanging in the picture after next week, maybe it starts to get some real attention.

Personally, I felt that if he was a 35-40 point guy this year, I'd count it as a success. He's far exceeded that.

Here were our predictions before the season started. I added the posters names where they were closest to where Aho is now or will likely end up. I didn't predict points, but predicted 15 goals (in blue), so my prediction was low.

Aho = 11g 18a 29p
Aho = 10g 16a 26p
Aho = 15g
Aho = 13g 16a 29p
NotOpie: Aho = 16g 31a 47p
Hank: Aho = 21g
CarolinaCaniak: Aho = 20g 31a 51p

Aho = 13g 25a 37p
Highway29: Aho = 14g 32a 46p
Azor Aho: Aho = 21g 23a 44p
MinJaBen : Aho = 17g 36a 53p
Lethargic: Aho = 21g 29a 50p

Aho = 28g 32a 60p
Aho = 15G 18A 33pts
Aho = 17G 38P
Moostache: Aho = 18 25 43

He passed my goal prediction, on pace for the point total though

I like my total point projection right about now, but I didn't get the ratio of goals to assists right, it seems.

Yup, I remember the predictions. That's some pretty interesting stuff in retrospect. I also remember saying that if he got to 35 points I'd be happy. As I said, I'm glad he exceeded expectations.

I don't typically watch interviews but does Eddie typically stumble over words that much?

Yeah he's always had a noticeable stutter

I haven't seen any interviews in SWEDISH, does he stutter a bit in those? I thought it was just him searching for the appropriate English words, which is he does an incredible job of.

In fairness, nobody got the goal prediction right, well unless he scores 5 more. ;)

He was sold as a playmaker, so that's not too surprising. Tough to not be overshadowed by one of the best goal scorers in the league.

Does Eddie speak Finnish and Swedish? Either way, if I heard the interviews in either, I'd not be able to tell if he was stuttering or it was just the language. I've always assumed that the "stutters" were him trying to come up with the right word in English and not a true stutter that a native speaker of English might have.

Eddie speaks Swedish at home, and seems to be doing it okay.

Here were my predictions for the main guys with the team vs. where they are currently projected to end up (I didn't predict Ryan):

Skinner: 23 vs. 34
Rask: 22 vs. 17
Staal: 21 vs. 18
Lindholm: 21 vs. 12 (14 for 82 game pace)
Stempniak: 15 vs. 16
Aho: 15 vs.25
Teravainen: 14 vs.16
Nordstrom: 8 vs.7
Stalberg: 8 vs. 11
PDG: 8 vs. 2 (only played 33 game though)
Bickell: 3 vs. 1 (7 games played)
McClemment: 2 vs. 5

The ones in red are guys that played pretty much the whole season and I was pretty far off on. Although with Lindholm, I did say this. Just got the goals vs. assists wrong.

I really think Lindholm is going to have an improved year this season. I predicted 21 goals and think he's going to be between 20-25G and 45-50 points, if he stays healthy.
