There is not reason to stunt his development. He needs to develop on D. It's a waste of a game to make him play on the wing. Smith is already a bum on defense, it's not like more time at D will improve his game.

Regardless, they should have called someone up or just double shifted Kreider and someone else.

They are both bad options, but ADA would not be effective at forward, especially on the wing. His vision and creativity is best suited at the d position. I just find it kind of annoying that some people look at offensive defensemen and assume they would be effective at the forward position.
