Malkin has consistently been a 1.20+ ppg player under Sullivan.

Which is what makes the last month even stranger.

EDIT: Right there, he's barely skating back. If he were skating back, he's got 2 times he'd usually take away the puck. Rationalize it however you want. The stats and the eye test don't lie.

Ugh, ice must be bad. If we could have handled the puck cleanly once there we might have had a few more chances.

That was my point.

The reference to playing like a guy who wants the coach gone didn't mean I thought that was the reason, but as we've both said, something is way off. Even on a 'good' night, he's technically okay, but he's not Geno. Not the guy we saw in October.

Thing is, IF I were Sully watching this, I'd be a lot more worried (and proactive about trying to do something to help) than Sully in fact has been.

I can agree with this, well said. I still have faith in Geno to snap himself out of it, but I’d like to see him get some support from the coaching staff.

Looks hurt. Don’t think he’s been bad the entire month either. There were games where he didn’t produce at ES but looked fine while his linemates didnt.

He's looked like this for most of the last month. It goes beyond one game. I'm as big a Geno homer as there is, except maybe @DegenX, and I'm telling you there's something way off here . . . and it didn't just start tonight.

You could be right but Geno won’t quit on this team. It’s not in his nature

Pearson’s shot is surprisingly good.

Not Neal good but maybe like Kunitz good.

ZAR has AHL level offensive skill so he’ll always be a frustrating player when he’s not playing 4th line minutes.

Given how the Pens have been since the season he kept coming back with the bad ankle about proactively sitting Geno when he's hurt, I'm not so sure.

There are some spurts, where I think optimistically MAYBE it's coming . . . I'm not sure. The body language and skating and engagement level is just brutal.

I can't imagine it, but you know something is way, way off. I've seen bad stretches. I've seen him play injured. This seems a little different. Why? Who knows . . . but he was more engaged that season he kept trying to play on that bum ankle late in the year and in the round against the Rangers.
