5th overall doesn't mean a guarantee of much. He has 364 games in the NHL so far with 165p. I wouldn't consider that a bad pick at #5. Is it a home run? No. But he's a useful depth player. He reminds me so much of Namestnikov with his simple playing style, ability to play wing/center and age.
he can't skate and neither can his brother. we've had these discussions but you can get away with below average skating at the junior and ahl level if you are uber talented. you can't at the nhl level. just aren't going to be able to do the things you are used to doing and if you can't adapt your game you're going to be a Strome. sounds a lot like our 7th overall pick which is what has had me concerned since day one and he's a way worse skater than the Stromes. the game has just gone to another level skating wise in the past 5 years or so.
now back on strome he seems like a smart guy that is trying to become a solid bottom 6 player and getting to play for a professional org like the Rangers as opposed to his two mickey mouse orgs beforehand may really help him become a 25 to 30 pt reliable two way player that can pk and be counted on late in games.
