Cue after the game: It was obvious that these lines would fail. What was Sullivan thinking. What an idiot....
let me get ahead with this...First line will have a lot of looks and shots, they will also give up a lot...the second line I'll tell you right now is not going to work, there is no one to drive the play, Heinen is not the guy that can change anything in that sense, maybe Carter gets blood transfusion and show up, but I doubt...the third line will be flying, it will make difference in this game, and fourth line is probably the most inept offesnively forward lien in NHL right now...DOC is kind of mistery we had high hopes that he could drive the play, but he really sucked last handful games he played here...he was a point a game in 5 games down in Wilkes, so he may turn the corner....so yes, its still change that reeks with zero understanding whats wrong with this line up, how to ride hot ERod, etc...
also, break Letang Dumolin, they approaching deep minus teritory, maybe play tanger with Petts, and have Marino with Dumo since he is struggling and can not support Tangers' unsuccesful and kind of recently lame offensive efforts...
so there it is...I'll check the notes after the game

Hi everyone,

Great GDT as usual @Ugene Malkin & enjoyed the other Scooby Doo posts here.

I’ve been asked to do the GDT for the Canucks today so here’s the Stats clips courtesy of The Score App for those who are interested:

As most of you probably know, our Board is almost unified in our desire for a Management change. Unfortunately the only way that’s possible is for Losses, so we’re in the awkward position of cheering for our individual players while wishing for defeat.

Hopefully your Boys destroy us tonight, without injuries to either side.

Cheers

Malkin is much more impressive in person than Sid. Unless Sid is going to do Sid things, which.... let's face it... he don't do like he used to do. Malkin is very smooth and .... different... you gotta see in person to appreciate it.

Every time I'd go to a game to see specific players, St Louis was one of my favorite players to watch... guy was mesmerizing but you go (me I mean) to games to see the real game being played, not the 12 inch area around the puck on the tv. The game is being played on the entire ice the entire time.... and you don't get that from watching on tv. Another reason I hate not selecting my own viewing angle in 2021 (on top of that STUCK HOME (well, before)). Don't get me started on stupid angles.

Once you seen it in person once you know the difference... if you never saw a live game before... you are in for a treat. Even though I'm not a mega fan of this team or 'new nhl' if I had season tickets (or just lived close to a team) I'd be there every game. I went to dozens of games when I lived in DC. That was the life. My enemy team, dickwad fans, but pro-level hockey 15 minutes from my home... oh yes.

There's one major flaw going to games, and that's actually seeing how little ice there is out there to maneuver with, which is something the TV brings that won't make me get angered every 30/40 seconds watching in person. This isn't something that just popped up, I've been to many games over the years and that bothers me. Yes, I'll still go to games, but that is a big deterrence. I like being able to kick back, not have the person around me spill beer/food on me, kick the back of my seat, block my view. All of these things have happen to me, sometimes needing to switch seats so my kids can see and me take on the inconvenience.

There are simple pro's and con's to being home and being there live. Seeing the players themselves in person is always a great draw, but I wouldn't label it a must for 42 games a season +playoffs.

Yeah absolutely.
Like everything else. Moderation is key.

He is not. The Penguins accidentally shared a tweet from Getzoff before the lines were settled.

The lines will be
Guentzel-Crosby-Rodrigues
Zucker-Carter-Heinen
McGinn-Blueger-Kapanen
ZAR-O'Connor-Simon
If I was Sully I’d swap Carter and ERod, but there’s a lot to like. Teddy and McGinn given someone more offensively alive. DOC in. Heinen given a better placement. I’m looking forward to enjoying this game.

I'm heading out for one of our family Christmas parties...

We do presents in a mass pile and people go up in turn and pick through the pile of presents and pick one and open it in front of everyone. Some good, some prank gifts, a real Mystery... You have a chance to pick one out of the pile or steal one off some who already went. Stealing a gift can only happen one time per gift. Once, one gift was a box of old carpentry cut nails...

I don't think Carter's lazy. I just think he's an old guy who benefited enormously from the reduced schedule last year, despite everyone wanting to pretend otherwise.

He's getting into that Marleau territory where he's being gifted time and games based on career and reputation and it's begining to concern me. When Malkin comes back, I wouldn't hate him being relegated to the 4th line or a wing.

No one could've foreseen the 37 year old vaulted up to playing major minutes in a top-6 role wearing him out quickly. That, coupled with Covid, probably has him pretty gassed at this stage. The Olympic break will probably do him a lot of good.

Nah, he just has to survive until Geno's back and he can settle back into a sheltered 3rd line role. We'll be running Sid and Geno ragged with 40 minutes a night, so Carter can go back to being the third wave of offense.

Honestly, looking back at how Carter's playing this year, maybe we should have kept McCann and exposed Carter anyway?
Correct. If we exposed Carter, Francis would have taken Tanev still. Francis would have known Carter only has 1 year left in him, and Tanev is the longer term investment.
Then to pay McCann's 2.94 mill we needed to sacrifice a little to get rid of Zucker.

Since McCann can play Center, that would have helped deal with depth while Crosby and Malkin were out, and we wouldn't have had to use Boyle. We also wasted 1.5 mil on Boyle and Lafferty.

Possibly, the only reason I have an issue was tanking McCanns value. That's a really good question would Seattle take Carter over Tanev?

I mean, if the ultimate goal was to get rid of Tanev's contract, no matter what, I think that was the only play we could have made to guarantee it. But if we protected Carter because we thought he was going to be our 2C this year, I think we should consider it might have been a misplay.

In the end, it's not the end of the world either way. I'm just not very pleased by Carter this year, but I think that's mostly because he's being misused, albeit because we got rid of one of the best internal options for saving wear and tear on him.

Haven't really wanted to post here or be an active member here anymore, but I will be at the game.

Also, yes Sullivan has over-used Carter which is why he looks awful, it's a very Tomlin type of idiocy with this coach with his need to drive players into the ground and then wonder why they're awful. The line "changes" are pretty bad, it's more or less Sullivan doing it to show everyone that here look, what I had was better, but here's me making it worse with no rhyme or reason as proof!

@Gurglesons posts are beyond f***ing stupid in the last GDT and I question how anyone with that sort of brain capacity has any kind of professional career.

Enjoy the rest of the season, I'll be in Seattle for the Monday game to watch the 2nd game which will be fun to see the Pens twice in a week since being away from the Pa.

Peace the f*** out, to those that I didn't dislike - Best of luck, Merry whatever you celebrate and Happy New Year.
