Why, I couldn't tell you. He's a perfectly serviceable 5/6 with some wheels, a good shot, and objectionably better than Troutman and I think Ruhwedel (but Ruhwedel >> Troutman). In fact, he even still has some upside to improve if Sullivan wasn't a jackass and let him play defense for a decent stretch.

(For reference sake and cutting of quote train, I'm talking about Riikola)

Trots is Sully's boy. Sully like's his boys like ZAR & Trots when logic would dictate you play someone that actually is good at the sport.

Ruh is mobile, decent in his own end, works well with the transition...so yeah why not bench him for the worst possible version of that in Trotman at the NHL level.

Also, the moment Jarry has a meh game, watch him never get a start again, Murray meanwhile, will have stinkers and get a bunch in a row to play out of it, meanwhile our other guy that this team drafted to be a #1 and literally didn't trade because JR felt they invested way too much time in him to dump him for nothing because he was supposed to be a #1 as well based on development and pedigree, should sit.

Being a guy like Ruhwedel must suck. He probably wants to play and would prefer to be in the AHL to get to play. But then if he's in the AHL he makes less money so that sucks too. I guess in the end making NHL money to do nothing isn't going to garner much sympathy.

Wouldn't be the first time this coach has done that to a player that deserves to play but didn't play the guy in favor of his go to boys.
