24/25 Waivers/Rumors/TDL Thread.

That contract would kill us for Bennett down the road and let’s be real nobody would choose to leave sunny Florida with less taxes who also happen to be the team you won a cup With

IF I was a player I’d rather take 6 per 7 in Florida than 7.25 in Detroit

As for compher if the hawks are willing and don’t get serious upgrades at C and Bert is mostly bottom 6 rest of the way I’d seriously try to work out a deal there . He’s shown chemistry with larkin and Raymond and plays a style we need and only has 2 yrs left
I'm not saying he would or wouldnt sign in Detroit, but people making up whether or not a player would leave a place to sign somewhere else is kinda dumb.

They arent going to have a whole lot of cap space to work with necessarily next year for starters. Bennetts hometown is fairly close and Detroit would be probably a 3.5 hour drive from there. Maybe he wants to get back closer to family since hes won a cup? Maybe the idea of more money and being close to home could draw him? Maybe hes dreamt of playing for an original 6 team?

No one knows what these guys are thinking. Why did Johnny hockey sign in Columbus?

every time I see people bring up Florida weather as some grand selling point it makes me think of all the times I went to Florida as a kid when my dad's parents moved there and how much I always HATED the weather there

weather is a lot more subjective than some people like to admit, especially with how humid Florida can get, i'd understand a bit more if we were talking about California

I so feel this. I despise Florida weather, and would happily stay in Michigan over there if everything else were equal. Los Angeles weather though is pretty legit. I did end up missing the seasons when I was out there though.

As for trades. I think Copp and Compher will both be dealable now with the cap going up. 5 mil for a 40ish point center will be the going norm very soon. Compher would probably need to be an equal deal coming back just due to the years (I like the idea of the Bert swap as its about equal in/out and I like Berts game more). Copp I actually think would appeal to contenders in a shut down 3rd C role.

I'm not opposed to trying Kasper at 2C. As long as he is with some creative players he seems to put up points. DBC/Kane would be a lot to carry though defensively. Unless we plan to run it back to the run & gun style we did last year, Kane is going to be major liability unless on the PP or 3 on 3. I think it the Wings can upgrade Kane it is probably time to do so. Only two guys I see are Ehlers and Marner.

Dealing Compher for Bert and signing Marner would be solid. Buyout Holl, trade Tank with retention.

Bert-Larkin-Marner
DBC-Kasper-Ray
Danielson-Ras-Soderblom
Mazur-Copp- Watson/Shine/UFA

Top 6 is still a bit small but has some grit in Bert/Kasper. Two very legit top 6 lines for once, and should be better defensively too. Danielson breaks in on the wing/ alternates a bit with Ras. Danielson and Soderblom have some GR chemistry and I think that could be a solid change of pace 3rd line. 4th line brings the D and hopefully some shutdown capability and grit.

On D the Wings have to find an upgrade on Chia in the top 4. If Gav resigns that basically leaves Porvorov on the market. I think we are going to need to find an option via trade. We need a LD. Either someone that can slot in with Seider or you bump up Ed and find someone that can play with Aljo or ASP. I'd honestly look at dealing Chia and trying for someone a little steadier to play with the young guys. Probably a LD so they can easily pair with Aljo or ASP since Aljo looks solid on RD. I think since Chai will only have the year left he is dealable. GM's always overrate players like him.

Ed-Seider (gives a pair that have complimentary parts offensively, and hopefully a lot of length to deal with defensively. Both need to work on their close stick handling as they tend to have bobbly weeks)
New- ASP (this spot is probably a trade)
New- Aljo (this could maybe be a UFA)

DeBrincat-Larkin-Marner
Berggren-Kasper-Raymond
Söderblom-Copp-Tarasenko or Brandsegg-Nygård
Rasmussen-Compher-Mazur

Edvinsson-Seider
Chiarot-ASP

The big thing is finally having NHL quality depth down the middle. One more year of Chiarot, but move him down to some easier matchups as the stay at home guy for ASP.

Marner levels up on where Kane is at right now and gives us a legit scoring line capable of 80ish goals. I have no strong feeling on Tank, could take him and put him on the third line if MBN can't lock down a roster spot, or trade him with some salary retention if MBN is ready to contribute.
No. We will not subject asp to playing with chiarot. Asp should be paired with ed right away.

I dont think it'd be a bad contract down the road. Fair enough that Bennett will most likely sign back up with Florida. Bert's a good alternative but until the Bennett option is closed I'd prioritize Sam.
Orlov makes 7.7 right now, I doubt he's going to take that kind of pay cut to play on a worse team.
Fine pay him 7 to 7.5. Cant see him sticking on Carolina with Alexander Nikishin on his way.

.

Then just get Bertuzzi back. He's not a #1LW, but he would help the cause in the top 9.

Also, he doesn't screw up the cap long term.
It's a good idea because DBoss has the ability to elevated AmBertuzzi's play, and I think he'll fit in with Ray as well. Problem is, I think CHI will ask a high price. Bare minimum they're gonna ask for a young roster player.

I would be okay giving Mazur or Danielson a look there, too. I see people penciling Mazur into the fourth line, but that's where I'd push Compher and Tank (if they aren't moved) before pushing a kid there.

Agree about Bennett. Feels like a contract that is likely to age very poorly, but also one of the few guys who adds a lot of what we want to add.
I think it'll do Nate some good to play on that top line, it did wonders for Kasper. But I also think it's gonna take him a couple of dozen games to get the flow, and the team really can't afford that next season if they want to make the playoffs.

I honestly think STevie gets desperate and gets into the bidding war for Bennett, and we all wind up cringing at the ridiculous contract. Is it the right thing to do? I don't think so, but it will get the team into the playoffs.

I don't think Chicago would ask a high price. He hasn't been an impact player for them.

Yeah, I would hate living somewhere hot all the time. Nice for vacation, but I like the cooler climate.

Bertuzzi is a 40 pt player with questionable defence, not sure why people want him back.

What has Danielson done to make the team?

He'd be an upgrade over Tarasenko and his questionable defense. Bert also has grit to him, which this team definitely needs.

Though I don't know who'd take Tank off the Wings hands.

We're going to have to hope that Compher has a bounce back year next year. Bury Holl in the minors. Retain cap to move Tarasenko or potentially ride his contract out if we get Orlov.

Sign Bennett 7X7.25
Resign Kane 1X 4.5
trade two 2nds and berggren for Mario Ferrero OR sign Orlov 2X 5 mil

Promote Mazur, Danielson AND ASP full time

If going with ASP is too scary, then signing a Trevor van Reimsdyk/Cody Ceci to help with pk for the short turn.

Bennett-Larkin-Raymond
DBC-Kasper-Kane
Danielson-Copp/Compher-Tarasenko/Soderblom
Mazur-Compher/Copp-Rasmussen

Motte

Orlov/ferrero-Seider
Edvinsson-ASP
Chiarot-Johansson

Gustafsson

Mrazek, Cossa, Talbot
I could definitely get down with this team

You could be right and time will tell but I don’t think I’m wrong. Caps going up , they have 2 guys making 3 per they can move or buyout .. bobrovsky has 1 more year left at 10 and he’ll then take a pay cut

These guys are filthy rich they can just fly they’re family over for visits. I live 2 hrs away from family and see them a handful of times over a year. I don’t think cause they’d live 3 1/2 hrs away they’d be coming over every few weeks

I think Florida is a top team right now with lots of other benefits. How much more money can Detroit offer than Florida for him to want to come here? 8.5-9 per? Would you go that far? I wouldn’t ... he’s good but basically been a 50 ish guy for the most part and shouldn’t be getting 7+ x 7. I think it looks great now but down the road we’d be all pissed we signed him that long

8.5 x 2-3 yrs sure . He wouldn’t take that .... anyways you could be right ,I think Florida gets him and ekblad signed somehow we’ll see what happens

Does 2025 Bert have grit? I honestly don't know because I don't watch the Hawks.

It's a good question and honestly I don't know either.

I'm not even necessarily saying I want Bert back but I can see why some people would. In a magical scenario where I could swap Bert for Tank I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I’m willing to give Tarasenko another chance next season. He hasn’t been great but let’s remember he won a Stanley cup and lost his father within 2 weeks last summer. I’d imagine it would be hard for anyone to be focused.

I think he is a nice bounce back candidate.

Also, there is a 0.0% chance yzerman brings back bertuzzi.

He has been pretty terrible since Boston. Very disappointing with Toronto and Chicago. My opinion is he also burned bridges with the organization in his last season. Not opening a political debate so we aren’t expanding on this other than upper management from the Wings seemed to leave him for dead the moment that was happening. I have never heard they even really heavily considered re-signing him.

His ok offense doesn’t make up for his complete lack of a defensive game. Even when Bert scored a lot in the postseason for Toronto and Boston fans panned his total lack of defensive zone awareness. For the kind of scrappy two way team I want to build I’d rather have someone with less offense but is more reliable in his own zone. Beauvillier can step up to the second line in a pinch, is speedy and reliable. Maybe Mangiapane can recapture some semblance of his hot Calgary shooting season and put in 15+ goals? I like his tenacity on the forecheck.

I didn't know that about his father. That's rough.

I hope you're right.

EDIT: oh wow his dad was only 56. That's so young it must've been a shock.

I didn't realize that either. Makes it alot easier to root for the guy, hope he has a solid stretch here to close out the season. Give him a positive start to his off season program.
