As someone said earlier, do even the hardest core rebuild fans think once all the kids are ready to make an impact, that they're magically gonna just breeze past the 1st round?

They're going to get their shit pushed in, whenever they make the playoffs. It's not about making a deep run, its about getting experience, so they're better suited going forward.
I'd love to see a big trade. I think trading for a rental or futures for depth for this year would be beyond stupid. I also have enough wits about me to be able to wait until the off-season to make a move if that's when the best deal is available.

But my original comment was only to suggest that this forum is all up in their feels right now and some are losing sight of the bigger picture. And 3 quick comments putting words in my mouth is a reflection of that.

Yzerman bought a 4th round draft pick for $1.2 million dollars, none of which was your money. None of which was going to be used on a roster player. Yzerman still has over $12 million dollars to play with at TDL.

Why do you hate that Yzerman purchased a draft pick?
Theatre of the nonrelevant. Truth is we fans spend much more time talking, strategizing, debating and dreaming of the perfect team while they are laser focused on the insignificant, sign another AHL goalie and be done with it.

I was looking at the forwards Tampa got and bjorkstrand has 16 goals ... for us to have packaged 2 guys like Seattle did we'd have to send off kane who has 15 goals

Sorry patty but if someone offers us 2 1sts and a 2nd for kane and tarasenko retentions they're both gone lol

We'd be lucky to flip tarasenko and someone else for a 1st .... get a 3rd team Involved so tarasenko comes in at under 1.2 mill

He hasn't fit here but I'm sure a top contending team who's cash strapped would take a tarasenko at 1.2 mill in a heartbeat. Get a double retention on gustafsson for 500k bahaha

Come on stevie think of something haha

Red Wings fans are IMPATIENT to lose in the first round!!!

Wrong on all levels. Red Wing fans are frustrated with the team's failure to make the playoffs despite having the assets to do so. Yzerman will remain inactive during the trade deadline, while his predecessor in Tampa Bay is actively improving his team.

I would LOVE to get blown out in the 1st round, just to be able to experience playoff hockey again. We’re breaking record with our miss streak. Many clubs have gone through full tear down rebuilds and are good teams again AFTER we started ours. Buffalo is probably the only exception here.

While lottery luck plays a part, most of this lies with Steve.
Who are these many clubs of which you speak?

captaibn yzerman has this ship right on course ,
net season is when the new playoff run begins .
til then keep amassing futures !

hopefully he can retain say 25% and get rid of tarasenko or holl 2025/26 cap hit , though he might have to add to do so

Why would Yzerman burn his assets for a short and fruitless playoff run just to "show his predecessor" in Tampa?

Lack of vision, impatient, short sided, and ego driven is NOT how to build a contender.

But you haven't gone fishing in years!

Kane won't be waiving his no trade clause. He likes it here and doesn't wanna move his family again

Don't love the getting rid of cap space to get a 4th that also improves a team within the division. I don't want Steve going crazy or anything, but using the space to actually improve the team would be nice. This move makes it seem like selling is more the idea yet again.

If he wasn’t gonna do it someone else would have. If anything it may push him to use an asset to buy something small since it feels like he’s really not losing anything

Would not be totally against the idea of doing another move, retain cap space just for this season + gain an asset and then make a couple small moves, promote someone. Change the mix, give someone a chance while not mortgaging anything of significance for the future. I do think Yzerman makes at least one semi big purchase at the deadline or is involved in something.. can't see them leaving cap space not used.

I'm down to make some moves, but I'm also not going grab my stress ball and yell at the sky if we don't because we just aren't a contender at the end of the day. A couple more years of development and roster moves are still needed to get there.
I don't know about this 'you don't mortgage the future for a first round exit' spin. You could likely improve on Holl by trading a 3rd. Why wouldn't you?
Personally, I'm not sure re-adding Olli Matta is going to make much of a difference... But I also don't think anyone's going to care if we trade a 3rd rounder.

Yeah, instead of picking 18th overall and getting actual playoff experience for our players and as fans, seeing the playoffs again, we should instead pick 15th overall, no playoffs and keep future star Wallinder and our billionth 2nd round pick.

That’ll help!

The insinuation that I am arguing that we shouldn't make the playoffs is ridiculous. I scrolled through the thread for the first time in a while and people are just frothing at the mouth. This is clearly a fragile fanbase at the moment.

Adding Travis Frederick isn't going guarantee a playoff spot, nor will adding Cozens or Byram for that matter. Again, I'd love to make a move, but I'm not trading 2x 1sts for Gourde and I'm not going to cry if we don't.
