Ed is also 2 years younger than Johansson and has been facing elite competition since he stepped into the league. Aljo has been great under McLellan but this is getting out of hand. At Ed’s age Johansson was just starting to hack it in the AHL. They aren’t close. Ed will be better than Seider IMO.

Canucks just gave up a 1st for marcus pettersson lmaoo guess since they saved money with the miler trade and the cap going up theyll just pay whatever pettersson wants otherwise dumb trade

Guess that's a left side blue liner we can cross off

ugh back to byram i suppose 😃.

since miller is definitely gone and pettersson is gotta be staying at this point, just leaves us to go back to cozens? I don't actually hate it but what would it cost to get byram and cozens with retention/third party paying some of salary?

With cap going up like crazy, I guess it wouldn't be absolutely crazy to not have any retention on cozens, but he's gotta play at a 7 mil aav pace lol.

I wonder if something a bit out of left field is possible.

The Nashville experiment has been a complete disaster, and it wouldn't surprise me if they quickly went from loading up to blowing it up. The real issue is that the player I'd want to steal is one of the few guys they WOULDN'T want to deal away: Justin Barron.

He's a 24 year old defenseman with 4 years in the league, good size (6'2" and 195 pounds) and is a right handed shot. The kid plays big minutes already and has another year at $1.15M before becoming an RFA. So the Predators would want us to pay through the nose to get him.

But could it realistically be done? And for what type of trade package?

If I started with Finnie, Buium, and a 1st...does that interest either team? Or is there any adjustment to reach an agreement without roping in that first tier of our kids (Kasper, Danielson, ASP)? I'd be willing to add one or more additional picks to the deal, but I don't know if Nashville considers the kid untouchable.

It seems like there should be a handful of teams already thinking of selling. I just wonder if there's a seller that would want futures rather than roster players (and ones that Detroit would be willing to deal) to find a match somewhere.

Finnie, Buium, and a 1st
Why does Detroit want to do this? RD seems okay for the moment. Barron is not exactly much of a point producer, either. This is a team that has two top 10 defensive defensemen as it is.

With Seider, Ed, AlJo, and ASP the Wings may not even need a top 4 defensemen. I like to envision AlJo-Seider and Ed-ASP next season but we will see how it all shakes out. A good 2C has been a big need for years, but Kasper or Danielson might be able to fill that role in the near future although with Kaspers recent play he may be just as valuable playing LW next to Larkin and Raymond. I think a bottom 6 C that is strong on faceoffs and the PK would be beneficial as well. I see this teams biggest needs being a 2C, bottom 6 C, and literally any defenseman that can play on the 3rd pair and not be a liability. IMO, this roster is only 2 non-star pieces away from being top 10 in the league and with the cap projected to go through the roof over the next few years it may benefit the Wings more than other teams, by the time the cap goes to the moon they should have plenty of space to add "luxury" pieces to an already solid roster assuming my proposed top 4 defense shakes out and the mythical ideal 2C surfaces.

With all that said, if I was looking for a trade it would be for a steady 3rd pairing defenseman that can run the PK or a 2C with a year or two left on his contract that could be a solid placeholder until Danielson or Kasper is ready to take over.

Instead of replying to everyone, I’ll just hit reply to you but it’s for everyone I suppose.

Not being edgy and I don’t like edging. Just want to make sure that is perfectly clear.

Horcoff had aljo above Edvinsson and he was first call up until he got injured with the leg. That’s a fact and I’ve proven it way too many times, go look for the article it’s there with a direct quote from horcoff.

Yzerman routinely goes out of his way to praise aljo development in press conferences and summer press briefings, especially when people kept bring up Edvinsson (pre this season of course).

Never said burgers was close or would ever be close to Raymond. Yes there are tiers to this and if you, @norrisnick, truly believe the analogy of Ed:aljo - ray:burger, then you should check out your mentals because berggren is multiple tiers below whereas I can see an argument that aljo is one or half tier below ed. Great analogy though 👍👋

Also, comparing the ed-aljo to liddy-white for how good one makes the other look is obscene. This makes it sound like you equate aljo to white. And white never played that great regardless. So that’s a head scratching analogy in itself.

Watch the tapes in an unbiased lens. Aljo is routinely in the right position, Ed gets caught more often (see the first 3-4 minutes of either this game or the game before where he gets smashed by reaching on the near boards in d zone. Just one example off the dome there are plenty others). Aljo routinely wins corner puck battles against same size or larger opponents. Ed does better in blocked shots but whenever he does it, he hurts himself so idk 🤷‍♂️. Ed has higher point production ability, 100%, but point producing is not the end all be all. Ed doesn’t use his size as much as he should (unless he is with Seider strangely enough) when it comes to clearing out the front or riding people into the boards. Ed probably has better hands and can go coast to coast probably better (haven’t really seen aljo try this or even attempt to do so…if someone has a clip please send, I’m interested to see that) but I’d give aljo more praise on dzone breakout passing.

Regardless, when you all have your opinion on something you don’t bend. That’s the internet baby. Doesn’t bother me so this is all a fools errand. At the end of the day, I don’t want to trade either player as our top 4 with them and Seider and asp should rival all teams in the league (if not routinely the best) within a few years as long as asp keeps developing as he is.

P.s. aljo gets more praise from mclellan and ed himself than all other dman not named Seider.

I respect your opinion. Sometimes it's best to just leave at agree to disagree.

I apologize for offending you.

Let's hug it out

Maybe, nothing is guaranteed. Vancouver looks like it could be on the verge of a rebuild if they collapse.

But if they do sign him at least he is in the west now. We need more talented players that are not going to Detroit going to the west conference. The less we see if them the better. No more Rantanens to the east please.

Why does Detroit want to do this?
Fair question. In my opinion, I think Detroit will eventually have a good but not great offense that will frustrate opponents. So I want an elite defense. Stack that blue line (and hopefully goaltending) so the strength of the team is incredible, and the rebuild isn't just making the playoffs, it's making very deep runs.

RD seems okay for the moment. Barron is not exactly much of a point producer, either. This is a team that has two top 10 defensive defensemen as it is.

I'm not looking to get Barron for major point production (although I think his points would go up a bit on a more successful roster). He's a defender that can move the puck well and also plays physically. He would be a good compliment to Seider or could be a luxury farther down the lineup.

I'm not ruling out getting another forward either. But even if Nate in 25-26 and Buch in 26-27 both look great, I think the eventual identity of the team is in how little they give up, rather than how many they score, so I want to accentuate that feature.

I like them trading for Pettersson. I thought their blueline was a bit of a weak spot outside their top pairing, and they shored that up. I guess we'll see now if Chytl will get a bigger role and if he can run with it.

I'm waiting to see Rantanen walk after Carolina gave up Necas...

Buchnelikov will be on the red wings next year. That’s a guarantee from me. So start slotting him into your hypothetical lineups. He came over this off season to talk with the red wings brass about how to start the process of coming over when he’s ready and he’s been taking English lessons. He wants to be here. Plus there’s a reason they have tarasenko here, make it easier on Buch.

I say this all to say, I find it highly doubtful we move tarasenko. Guys like copp and compher I do think have potential to be moved. I don’t see it with tarasenko.

What!?! Double Pettersson loss...

I'm not as pumped for a move now, I'm not saying make no moves, but... Elias Pettersson was imo tending towards elite with room to grow. Between him and Jack Eichel at the time; both i'd have given up a lot for. I don't see another player like EP being available in a trade soon. Unless you can get a guy for a real steal, idk if anyone's "good enough" to pay up for. Maybe they can knab Rantanen or Marner in UFA; Or pull something way outta left field like a Matty Beniers change of scenery.

Marcus Pettersson I liked but wouldn't have paid that price.

I would love a cozens move cause I think hes just waiting to explode. Buffalo is where you go to die lmao

I dont think we'd go for both that whole be a huge trade and it's already a tough sell I think to get a trade between division rivals

Wouldnt hate byram but I'd like a dman who's big and physical and can play 20+ a night. I'm less concerned with offense on the back end cause edvinsson will only get better and pellikka is coming

Seider gets a good partner he can be let loose a bit more. Cozens and byram together I think wed have no choice but to include kasper which I'm not a fan of

1st+ kasper+Johansson+compher+Rasmussen for cap purposes... one of lombardi/finnie/kiiskinen ? + Something else? Ya I dont want to think about it lol

He signed a 2 year deal and has 1 more year left in the khl

I'd eat 50% off tarasenko and move him. Hasn't been a good fit

I do agree Johansson is good. It wasn't so much comparing him to white as much as comparing the situation. White looked better playing with Lidstrom. Johansson benefits from playing with Ed. I think AlJo will carve out a very good career as a #3/4 but I don't see him being a 1a/1b like Ed. That's also very good because we need cost controlled guys that can play to their strengths and provide great depth of we want to go for a cup.

Rantanen got to play with Mack too. Playing in Carolina next to Aho let's see how his numbers fair going forward.

Mackinnon’s career didn’t take off until Rantanen joined the team. It was not the winger leaching off the center. They made each other better.

I like what the Canucks did yesterday if they can keep Pettersson, which is likely. The Miller/Petey thing had to be resolved and the obvious guy to go controlled the market. Pettersson is an ideal second-pair D and the 1st rounder given up, with the protection condition and Miller helping the Rangers short-term, wasn't going to be a high pick this year or next. They're gambling on Chytil staying healthy but if he does he could be all they need out of a 2C, and like Pettersson is in the right age-range. O'Connor is a handy guy that I'd like to see the Wings go after this summer to replace Motte and be decent depth for further up the lineup when necessary. For the Canucks, it all comes down to EP40 getting his shit together and now he's got one less excuse for being underwhelming. Canucks may have listened to offers, I doubt very much whether they seriously considered moving him or plan to anytime soon.

Dude. Listen.

JT Miller has multiple ppg seasons, one of them 100 points. He’s on an 8 mil aav contract. He was just traded for a .5ppg 3rd line center with injury concerns, a mid prospect and a mid to late 1st.

Rantanen, a guy that’s had 4 100 point pace seasons and averages 38 goals and 90 points a year over his career, is a monster in the playoffs, was just traded for Necas and Drury and late 2nd. Necas is a speedy offensive one-dimensional winger with motivation issues. Drury is a 3rd/4th line tweener.

Your trade proposals of our best youngsters plus picks plus surplus 4th liners may work in ea sports. They don’t work in real life. This trade does not resemble real trades in the NHL.

Yeah, I honestly suspect that unless someone really wants to overpay for anything on the wings, I do not see SY making any moves this season unless T-Mc wants them jettisoned from a trebuchet. The signed the vets on the team were brought in as much for character and to appease D-Boss.

These players are important to support the yutes as the yutes start driving the bus...with the cap increases, those contracts largely become insignificant, as I suspect as the new bar for useful 3C's FA's will be in the $5M range come July 1 this year, if not then, certainly by the next year.

This said, a hockey trade could still happen, but I am sure T-Mc is no where close to his final evaluations of players and the season expectations have ticked back upwards since Christmas...but I can still see SY moving Lyon (or Talbot), Joey V, Motte, Ras, Lagesson or Fisher if someone really wants to overpay for them.

Might even get something for Husso if he wants to retain on him, but I expect another quiet year or two from SY on the TDL front unless SY can fleece someone to make the team better.

Justin Barron is ass. He’s playing 16 minutes a night and has 6 points this year. Kasper has more goals in January than that. You want Detroit to trade a 1st, and a good prospect, AND talk about adding more?

Dude ... I dont know what the hell your talking about lmao

He was talking about trading for both cozens and byram ... not 4th line guys... was zero mention of Miller and rantanen. Miller had a no trade clause and basically forced his way to New York so the return was never going to be big

I said I wouldnt do the deal for both cozens and byram cause I wouldnt want to think about what the cost would be. We wouldnt get both of those guys for rejects and picks
