Vancouver execs really aren't helping themselves out here either. As soon as it dies down a bit one of them says something to put it right back in the media again.

You either need to shut up about it and make the adjustments you need to get through the season (separate lines/ PP units) or you buck up and make the best deal you can and move on.

With that said I personally think they should make the best deal for Miller that they can and move on. If you can do so without retaining salary do it. The guy his 31 and has a history of being difficult to deal with to some degree. Bring in a winning vet our two to work with Hughes, EP, but someone who is positively vocal. You might be taking a skill downgrade in the trade but sometimes team cohesiveness makes up for that.

Peterson keeps your window open longer.

Brad Richardson played with both and said in an interview on one of thehockey podcasts that Pettersson had some growing up to do and needed some team leadership to kinda tell him he needs to grow up. He then said that Miller dogged him really hard, sounded like almost to the pointof bullying. Richardson pulled Miller aside and said I agree with your point about him needing togrow up but if you keep saying it this way youre gonna lose him and you cant keep talking to him like this. I saw that interview. Made me think that Vancouver should have seen this issue coming before it got to this point and made moves over the summer.

I think it is 1. and all about managing expectations with the fans. Talk about making a move from a position of weakness. Both of these two come off as barely functioning adults, which can't help their trade value.

Both are super competitive and emotional. One manifests as a tantrum throwing bully and the other pouts and gets sullen.

I’m more hopeful for a trade to happen the less I hear about the Wings being involved. The more it’s speculated, the less I believe it’s real.

Note; Cat situation being notwithstanding as that dragged on for so long and it was obviously to literally everyone that he was waiting them out for DET.

Someone posted an excerpt from Lidstrom saying they were monitoring the Petterson situation and of course they are interested in trading for him if they can.

I'd part with danielson in a heartbeat as well if it's for pettersson or someone like him, top line guy whose 25-26 and still many years ahead of him. Wouldnt for a miller or someone 30+. Danielson would be 3c here 100% with pettersson larkin down the middle

That is a top 9 that would put some damage out there. you got minimum 3 200 ft two way players (danielson, larkin, kasper, i would argue raymond and apparently ep40 does it as well, so max 5? don't hate that). then you got soderblom on the 3rd line that could produce (his first shot of last game early in the first period was a damn rocket for a wrister, goalie was surprised). goal scoring up and down the lineup.

of course, that is if we can get ep40 without one of kasper/danielson lol.

I’ve got the same list. Although Im a little flexible with MBN. for the right long term piece I could be okay with shipping him out.

MBN brings some much much needed physicality that we need. Would not be interested in trading him. Some one like Lombardi would be a different story.

I think it would have to be danielson or kasper going back since theyll need a C. Kasper has been playing great here and I dont think wed want to part with him. Pettersson would def be wit raymond and Larkin would drop to 2c

Those would be how I see it. Rasmussen will be an overpaid 4th liner till hes moved or walks. I've given up on him being anything more

Anyways pettersson isnt coming, cozens is the more realisitic option but considering were a divisional opponent I doubt it. I think he'll explode wherever he goes so I'd have np taking him in a second either

Can handle more minutes and play them at a higher level. Better puck mover and better positionally.

If he does not want to re-sign with them, get an asset for him as opposed to nothing. They have a number of other defenseman to help pick up the load between Werenski, Mateychuk, Jiricek, etc.

They are currently outside the playoff spots, and in another month or so could be well out of it.

Jiricek was traded to the Wild a couple months ago.

Also, why on earth would Boeser get anything more than Debrincat? There value is identical and Debrincat has a better contract after this season. You have us giving them a good prospect and a 1st with no protection which is insanity. I keep Debrincat all day everyday.

Also, I’m not sure what you’re talking about with respect to Boeser. The point is Vancouver hasn’t had talks with him, so him signing there may be a long shot. Boeser will get more as a pending UFA than Debrincat makes now, which should be attractive to Vancouver.

And you have to give to get. At this point, there’s no reason to think Detroit’s 1st rounder this year or next is going to be top 10. I have no problem giving up a 12-18 round pick for the chance at a 1C.

I’d rather have the guy who has some growing up to do at 26 than the guy who will be 32 in 6 weeks and still hasn’t gotten it through his head after being on 3 separate teams that his “leadership” style is toxic. A sensitive guy can grow a thicker skin. I’m not sure a self-righteous asshole is going to do any self-reflecting if he hasn’t already after 13 years in the league.

Also, I don’t know why but I think it’s really funny that a guy solidifying his reputation as a prick is from Ohio.

Edit: Also wanted to say that my desire for Pettersson is somewhat contingent on his play at the 4 Nations tournament. Obviously a short tournament isn’t always the most telling, but if he looks rejuvenated, engaged, plays with tempo, and has good body language playing with his countrymen, let’s target him. But if he carries this Vancouver shit to his national team and gives off woe-is-me vibes, then I’d be more likely to think he has a serious personality defect and I’d be less likely to pull the trigger.

At this stage I rather get rid of Compher and keep Copp. Yeah Copp's contract isn't good and he isn't the best but if we can keep him in the 3rd or 4th line we might be able to ride out his contract without much bother.
