This franchise makes so little sense it is absolutely wild to me. I mean as much as people complain about Yzerman and this rebuild there is a reason why he didn't rush all of his young guys into the NHL just to have them exposed. It creates a losing culture.
How does a team with the skill of Thompson, Power, Byram, Dahlin, Peterka, Tuch, Cozens, etc fail this epically.
Sorry, going to hijack your point..
It's also one of the reasons I don't really understand the sheer amount of hate that our older vets get like Copp, Compher, Perron, etc. He added those players to the team because he didn't want the young guys to get caved but also to give them an experienced, veteran leader of high character to go "Hey, yeah it's rough, but keep your head up and stay focused on..." I know that they aren't that talented or good, or make too much, or whatever. These guys were never in the long term plans and are here to provide buffer and support as our young guys get used to be being a professional athlete and develop good habits. BUF is a great example of basically a lot of talent with no leadership, experience, or mentoring. Are the still talented? Sure, have these guys ever reached their potential? Probably not but I can't blame the players because quite frankly there were thrown into the fire and got chewed up.
