A 26 year old, first line center in his prime that has hit 100 points and been top 7 in selke voting before. For context, its been almost 30 years since the wings had a 100 point player and its a number Datsyuk or Zetterberg never reached.

How do you not see it?

He got selke votes for 1 reason only, he plays on a Canadian team. McDrai also get Selke votes, something Larkin has never gotten eventhough he is better than both by a lot in his own end. Canadian Media members also hand out Selke votes like candy to any really good performing player on a Canadian team.

If he played for Columbus or something he would have never gotten a single Selke vote. As is, he only has two seasons with Selke noms, which I think further proves he isn't a Selke level player.

Edit - He had a 100 pt season, then immediately down to 89 and this year on pace for less than 80.

Miller wouldn't be bad for the rumored cost but not a guy I want.

Seems like Yzerman's talking. The article made it seem like there was a legit offer made and that was the "rumored" offer posted. I'm happy Yzerman is out talking, looking for a upgrade, a significant one. If a deal isn't there to me bad, so be it. It's two teams now with rumored trade connections to the Red Wings.

Hopefully these convo's just lead into a Pettersson deal that everyone can stomach.

If it's Detroit and Petey it's SE(they know Seider is a non-starter) or Raymond plus a pick plus a salary dump plus a B prospect(Soderblom level)..

If Petey is dealt, I see it being to Eastern Conference, and Carolina as a fit with Necas plus plus going back. Or maybe NJ and something around Hischier/Bratt and Meirer/Palat...We have nothing that can both match that AND not leave a big hole somewhere else as those teams..

He's gotten selke votes the last 2 seasons, and played so well last night his teammates were on the bench chanting selke at him. This is spoken like someone who doesn't actually watch him play, because Pettersson is a legit 2 way player. Saying he's on a Canadian team so he gets votes, meanwhile his home games are on at 10pm eastern time is certainly a weird argument.

He's 26 for gods sake, so at 24 and 25 he had 2 seasons well over a point per game. He's been hurt this year, there's all kinds of drama in their dressing room and he's still having a legit first line center season.

This sounds like when Eichel was available and Rangers fans didn't want to trade Kakko and Schneider for him. Think they would make that trade now?

No way on Dylan Cozens. That guy is an all around BAD hockey player. He will make this team worse than having a replacement level player in that spot.

I live in the Niagara region so I get more games/news/Talk about the Leafs and Sabres daily than any other teams, and Cozens is bad news.

The moment he is no longer on Buffalo the team gets better by him not being there, and whoever aquires him will have buyers remorse instantly.

He is, quite simply the absolute worst player without the puck I have ever seen. Virtually zero "hockey IQ". He plays pond hockey, hangs his teammates out to dry all the time. Goal after goal the Sabres allow with him on the ice he is out of postion, leaves the center of the ice wide open while going to the corner to chance pucks he won't get to. And it doesn't stop, it keeps happening over and over with him. He can't 'unlearn' it.

Can't shoot. He's a career under 10% shooting guy. Sabres have 12 forwards with 30 shots or more on the season, he's the only one shooting under 10%, despite having a decent number of 'high danger chances"

The Sabres powerplay has him on it all the time but the rare cases he isn't out there the PP is better without him. Last year he got hurt and missed 2 games. The 4 games before he got hurt the Sabres didn't score a single PP goal with him on the PP. Cozens misses 2 games and they score PP goals in both games. He comes back and goes right back on the PP and they don't score again for the next 4 games with him. He gets top PP time, yet he has a total of 10 PP goals in the last 4 seasons he has been on the PP.

He is by far the worst forward +/- on the Sabres, the only othe 2 guys that are close are the ones that were his wingers, Jack Quinn being one. 2 games ago Quinn was taken off of Cozens line and proceeded to have his best 2 games of the year, scoring 3 goals in 2 games? Who was added to Cozens line instead? Zucker and Tage Thompson. Both of they were positive +/- guys for the Sabres up until then. A few games with Cozens and they are now negatives, both logging -4's for the worst game of the season for both of them on just their 2nd game with Cozens.

Might also be the most anti-clutch guy ever. He is on the first or 2nd PP unitl 100% of the time for Buffalo, yet he scores a PP goal 1 out of every 28 games. Game winning goals? He gets 1 every 70 games.

Oh, and he's going to take up $7m+ cap space for the next 6 or 7 years?

No, no, NO to Cozens. Guy is the most over-rated in the league. The only reason he keeps getting ice time in Buffalo is he is one of the owners favorites.

From what I remember (keep in mind I don't listen to WGR out of Buffalo all the time, I probably spend a bit more time listening to 590 out of Toronto, they give more of a 'league wide' view), but there wasn't a huge push that I recall to get rid of Eichel or Reinhart by the fans.

Fans liked Reinhart, I'd guess more than half of them wanted him extended but the Sabres never offered him a long term deal. It was just bridge deal after bridge deal offered. No one thought he would be a 50 goal scorer, but no one wanted him gone.

Eichel I feel there was disappointment that he wasn't what he was sold to be. Most fans thought he would be the 1b to McDavid's 1a. That he would be semi-generational, a guy who would be a top 5 guy in scoring every year and occasionally challenge McDavid for the scoring title. With the losing in Buffalo, and his injury history there, some were ready for a move. Not many people really disliked him until he had some comments in interviews after where the fans there percieved he took some shots at the city.

And as far as Cozens, he just might be worse than Copp or Compher because he is more dangerous to the team. Why do I say that? He can actually hurt the team more nights than he helps, and you are paying him over $7m for that honor, not to mention the 'raw skill' is something that some coaches will be convinced they can bring out of him by running him out there for 18-20 minutes per game, when in reality if he is useful, its only on wing, WITH a responsible Centerman, and on the 3rd line or lower. When I say to you he is bad, he has some bad games where the team is legit worse for having him on the ice.

I think getting a defenseman now prevents the Red Wings from obtaining a guy like you mentioned who are available "at the moment". Getting that big center piece in doesn't necessarily stop Yzerman from still upgrading the defense at some point, even this season on another cheap deal later. I also don't think it's stop Yzerman from spending on a UFA defenseman (though he's not exactly been great at that so far). There are a few guys this year who are solid middle pairing guys that won't break the bank like Provorov/Chychrun/Pionk/Ekbald will. Those guys will cost a lot.

Cozens has always been the 2nd line center in Buffalo. Tage Thompson is the first line center. Tage Thompson gets the first line minutes.

its only the last 2-3 games Cozens is centering the 'first' line because Tage Thompson is playing hurt and literally cannot take faceoffs. Thompson had to be moved to wing so that is the only reason Cozens is at 1c. 270 of his last 280 games played over the last 4 seasons Cozens was at 2c or 3c (with a few very short stints at wing)

Cozens has always been a 2c, never a 1c unless Thompson is injured.

I live in Vancouver and it’s pretty clear fans and media prefer Miller. Him underperforming might have been manageable but media inserted the narrative about a feud and it’s made everyone vocal about where they stand on Petey. Quiet Swedish guy making 11.6M and no playoff success or JT Miller who is a dawg and showed up in their last run. Media might just blow up a really good core if that feud is anything less than the reason for the toxic dressing room and under performing team

I'm sure reinhart eichel and o'Reilly were getting sh*t on by the media before they were dealt. Theres no reason to think he cant bounce back elsewhere. Buffalo is where you go to die lol

Theres players I wouldnt deal and I'm sure Adams will find out other teams gms wont move their top prospects but if hes that desperate to get rid of him we'll take him off his hands

You are talking about him like he’s only ever been bad as a pro, and that’s just not true. I can guarantee you that these local radio stations and the Sabres fan base were singing a totally differently tune on Cozens 2 years ago.

I wouldn’t disagree the current version of Cozens is bad/underwhelming. But you aren’t trading for that player. You are trying to get him as a reclamation project on the low and hoping with a change of scenery he can go back to the player we saw 2 years ago.

You have to frame this conversation the right way if we are going to have it.
