I think it might have been rushed to the league office by Yzerman.
What I do wonder is if this is/are the type of offers Vancouver have been getting league wide which is why a deal's not been done.

K'Andre Miller's progression has been on a two year downward trend, and has been pretty bad this year. Don't want. Would rather a Wallinder or Buium continue to develop to take a potential spot then deal for Miller.

JT Miller has had problems with teammates on every team he's been on. I also don't feel like his game will age well. Give me Pettersson. Give me Cozens if the price is right. I don't want to pay what Miller will cost just to have him getting in fights with Larkin and Raymond in 6 months.

I dont think Wallinder, Danielson, and Compher will get you Petterson. Probably need to throw in a 1st or more.

No to JT Miller. Stupid to spend assets to acquire him at his age when he'll be too old and less effective by the time the team is really in their window.
Maybe to Cozens, if the price is right. Willing to take the risk if buying low.
Hell yes to Pettersson. Players like him rarely become available and he would resolve the greatest missing piece left in the rebuild.

It's the 100 pt center resume thing probably.
Not sure what you’re getting at. Petterson isn’t getting Raymond. Ray provides nearly the same offensive game but has a much better contract and isn’t causing anybody locker room issues. Guys on the trade block never have the trade value they would in a vacuum.

you said that if we maintain larkin and pettersson and our entire d corps, then we could compete for cups. i wasn't sure if you were implying that anyone else in the system was expendable to make the trade for pettersson. guess you weren't
personally, i think that raymond is our most untouchable asset. larkin is getting close to aging out of our window. we could trade seider and still have edvinsson, and vice versa. we could trade cossa and still have augustine, and vice versa. we could trade kasper and still have danielson, and vice versa. we could trade debrincat and still have buchelnikov (potentially), and vice versa. we have no one in the system that could step in and do what raymond does
raymond is our leading scorer (going on 2 years in a row) our most consistent player (his longest scoreless streak this year is one 3 game stretch, and that was the 3 games before lalonde got fired) one of our most rugged players (he's only missed 8 games in his career so far) he does all this while still holding his own on defense. and the scary thing is that he keeps getting better in all facets of the game. i believe that he has the talent to drive play from the wing a la kane. i predict that in 2 years he will have one of the best contracts in the league

A 26 year old, first line center in his prime that has hit 100 points and been top 7 in selke voting before. For context, its been almost 30 years since the wings had a 100 point player and its a number Datsyuk or Zetterberg never reached.
How do you not see it?

Personally, I've been down on Pettersson lately because he doesn't show his star 1C form consistently enough. 2024 was a telling year for that and he hasn't fully regained form yet
Now, he's had injuries, and he just turned 26. Entering his prime, I would hope he starts to make that 11.6M cap hit worth it

I've thought Johansson was our 3rd best D behind Seider and Edvinsson since his first game. He's small...but I almost never see him making mistakes. He's fast and he's always in the right position. He's very high IQ and always makes the right decisions w the puck. He's very poised and skilled with the puck...and gets it out of high-danger situations nearly 100% of the time. And he never leaves his man open in scoring position.
He can play left side or right side. He can play on the top pair in a pinch. He's never going to be a high point total player, so his first real contract of length shouldn't price him out of the 3rd pair. He's a real blessing to have. Players get hurt over the course of a season, and he can step in anywhere in the lineup and not cost you games. He'll get 10-20lbs stronger before he's 30 as well.
If you can get Miller cheap, of course you do it. He's a big immediate upgrade over Perry/Holl/Gustafsson...maybe even Chiarot. If the cost is significant, you have to think about it a bit. 1) He's a RFA at the end of the yr. What AAV is it gonna take to keep him? How long is the contract going to be? 2) What is he here? Is he the LHD missing in our core top-4 (Seider, Edvinsson, ASP, ???). Or is he a 3rd pair guy?
If you think he's a 3rd pair guy, and he's going to be too expensive for that role, and the trade price is too high...of course you pass.
If you think he's that core top-4 piece.....that he can improve upon what's pissed off Ranger fans and writers so much.....then start the negotiations and see how cheaply he can be brought in and extended.
And what are your other options? Chychrun? Pettersson? Provorov? Waiting 3yrs for a new 1st Rd pick to be ready? Is there a trade option out there?
Walman apparently wasn't good enough in SY's eyes to be that top 4 LHD for us. Is Miller?
Isn't that more or less exactly what Clearly was pre-Detroit? A super talented prospect who almost drank himself out of the league?

He has worse stats than Larkin for over 2 mil more a season and he sucks at faceoffs. He has also been called out by his GM for lack of awareness in certain situations. The thing between him and Miller is also potentially cause Miller is more serious and expecting hard compete and Pettersson is more cool headed/lackadaisical.
Pettersson's body language and talk when talking about Miller is also off-putting/slash almost little kid-esque.
Pettersson is, at the very least, the perfect 1b C to Larkin through our core yrs. At the most he's our superstar. Of course you get him if you can. But we have a lot of great players being talked about in these potential trades. And they're going to be very cheap players for half a decade. And they could be supplemented w FAs if we're not paying Pettersson.
So you give up what it takes. But you don't go crazy.
MBN.....2025 1st.....Kasper.....Danielson.
You give them ONE ^ of those assets. Not two. And that's in rough order of preference.
2025 2nd. 2027 1st. A 3rd. A 4th. Whatever. Throw in whatever you need to of that ilk. We're a team with a ton of great depth prospects. Quantity of picks is something we can deal.
Any of Bergrren, Veleno, Ras they want. Compher, Copp, Chiarot, etc.
If they like a Buium, Lombardi, Finnie, etc., sure.
Where we will be unhappy...and where they will be unhappy...is the players from this group we'll lose:
Johansson, Wallinder, Buchelnikov, Kiiskinen. I hope not Mazur. Definitely not Augustine.
