What would this even look like?

I am not sure...but it hit my brain as being an interesting alternative that would give Vancouver a different centerman, Detroit would get their 1A/1B centers, and Buffalo could garner more quality from this kind of trade, rather than a player/B-prospect/picks.

ETA: Buffalo fans, for sure, would hate this as it would mean they would be giving up on their season. But I hate to break it to them, it's already done and dusted. Montreal is starting to turn the corner and Buffalo is....well....Buffalo.

RE: Veleno. Honestly, I wonder if he could end up a bit more like a Dan Cleary. Pedigree (1st Rd picks but never lived up to their potential), Cleary's case, it found himself more of a 40pt 20/20 guy that needed to be supported by a talented center because he had limited ability to make his own chances but was "good not great" at a number of things and was kind of unlocked later in his career after DET limited his role and put him with Z.

Ditto, Veleno feels like he has a lot of tools - good not great - but generally sucks at awareness and being able to create his own opportunities. Maybe reducing the overhead of being a C, telling him to keep up with the play, and to bang around the net and let Larkin and Ray create for him could make him into a far more intriguing player... like a Mathew Knies etc.

If Veleno can play a top 9 wing role, dig in the corners and play responsible defense then I think he’s got a lot of seasons as a 20/20 guy. I’ll take that outcome for him.

I like the idea of Cozens, they need to try something at second line center. Cozens plays a style of game that would mesh well in Detroit I think too. Brings size that they need and is only 23.

The risk factor is with his production given the size of his contract. I dont think I would love giving Kasper up for that, and think he could probably used to land a bigger, more proven fish in a package than Cozens.

I think if Yzerman was willing to deal Kasper, Cozens would be a wing already

Cozens has never screamed center to me. The player he’s always reminded me of is Jeff Carter, and Carter’s best years were always at wing.

If Cozens was traded to Detroit he’d be best as the 2RW, or maybe as 1LW. I think we’d see him get 60-70 points regularly.

I can’t imagine the cost for Pettersson that I’d be happy with but that makes us a real contender down the middle. Pettersson thinks the game at a whole nother level him and Raymond would be one of the best duos in the NHL. Vancouver fans will chase another superstar out of town it fits their narrative

We’ll have a pretty sexy window when ASP is up and before Ed is off his entry level. That’s a window I don’t see Kasper/Danielson as your 2nd line centre making the most of that opportunity
