Too soon I suspect, if the intent is for GR and the wings to have the same style of play, I suspect that the GR team (players and coaches) will need some adjustment time.Should be waiving guys like Justin Holl/Erik Gustafsson and bringing up young guys like Shai Buium and Antti Toumisto. If they fail, send them back down and recall the old stinkers. Idk if I like the side talk from Yzerman about growth within then blocking guys like this who play well enough in the AHL to get looks in the NHL. Gustafsson might get claimed helping the situation out if you waived him.
Even Cossa, he didn't look out of place as a backup and could legitimately be the better player between all of Lyon/Husso/Cambpell.
Idk what you can do with Veleno/Rasmussen right now, Veleno's playing better next to Chrisitan Fischer lately.
A talk with Patrick Kane has to be made. He can get healthy scratched pretty often or tell Yzerman which teams he'd like to play for. He could really help out a team like Dallas whose PP for a Stanley cup contender is sluggish. Minnesota or Winnipeg might like him as well. Most depends on him though. Some guys collect checks though and staying healthy for him might be a priority over winning(everything you need to know going forward).
Things as little as Tyler Motte waived and Austin Watson brought up, cause he's actually better at the jobs both do.
I know people like Berggren but he can be traded in a package, I see a floater most of the time out there.
To me, letting guys linger around breeds this losing culture. I'm not sure many of these veterans are scared to lose their jobs to rookies/young players at all right now outside of injury.
Hopefully, the kids will learn it quicker than the vets and in a month or maybe two at the most, they will ready to set into TM's world and be successful.
Then it is time for them to shine and play in the big house. If TM goes with 1-3-1 for an offensive zone forecheck scheme, then I see Elmer coming up real soon if he continues playing like he has to be the wrecking ball forechecker.
The wings have a spare roster spot, it would be good to get several of the waiver exempt yutes involved for cups of coffee.
