Honestly with the way the Rangers have handled him, probably only a half decent prospect and a 3rd round pick. I would happily welcome that. I think he's got a legit shot to break out as a 2RW grindy scorer. Would be a heck of a fit with Marco IMO

yeah seems like we'd be buying low and he fits what the Wings want in the future, even if he never progresses much. I'd be all over it.

I think we need to incentivize the rags on that trade
Both are underachieving former first round picks. Kakko isn't that much better of a winger where Veleno's "alleged" center playing ability doesn't pull him close enough that it's a wash. And another contract year under $2.5M for Joe has a hint of value. Kakko is arbitration eligible this coming summer.

And to add... Veleno is the limit of the assets I'm willing to burn on Kaapo f'n Kakko...

Kappo f’n kakko has an 18 goal and 40 point season under his belt and is on pace for another 40 point season while “underachieving.”

I’d love to be wrong on this but I don’t see the rangers pulling the trigger Veleno for Kakko straight up.

Laine hat trick ... instead of taking a chance on a former 40 goal guy with 1 year left on his contract whose not 30+ in age and adding a 2nd round pick we not only give away a very capable dman for free but we gift 2nds for fun

Then we also sign 30+ has beens like tarasenko with term

Kakko for Veleno

One change of scenery guy for another.
I'd do that in a heartbeat and throw in a 4th or 5th if it got the job done. Dont think rangers would though.

Dont think he'll iever be a high end top 6 guy but I can see him on a solid 3rd line. something like Lombardi danielson kakko

I mean... 40 point seasons. That's Copp/Compher... I don't see the need to toss anything of value for that.

That still puts him ahead of Veleno by quite a bit value wise. I don't want Kakko either, but he is still better than JV.

Laine would be a spacegoat here very quickly. If he isn't scoring he is floating a lot.

Not like tarasenko's doing much. It's not being cause hes scoring now but I would have taken a flyer on a still young enough player who had 40 goals prior with only 1 year left on his deal and receive a pick for doing so

Not like we're cup contenders

Kakko is someone id like them to go after.. value is in the dumps because of how the Rangers saga is going, and we have some guys that need a change of scenery it seems... Veleno and another piece? Ras straight up? Doubt they want any of our defense but if they do, please take your pick!

Even if he doesn't reach his potential or improve much, there isn't a ton he needs to replace to be a positive addition.

Veleno is the warmest body of all the warm bodies and the plug-iest of all plugs. Veleno alone ain't gonna be enough. Berggren+Veleno package? Jonny Burger ain't getting his chance here and other prospects are knocking at the door.

That would leave Larkin and Ras as lone survivors of the Holland-era.

I'd offer Rasmussen straight up

I am a harsh critic of Rassmussen, and would like to move on from him ASAP, but I don't think I'd swap him out for Kakko. Kakko is equally ineffective as a hockey player, maybe even more so, but also comes with a shit attitude. For as bad as Rassmussen is, he's at least viewed as dedicated team guy within the room.

This swap would be a "cutting off your nose to spite your face" type of move.

What chance has Berggern earned? He is Top 5 for % of shifts starting in the ozone, getting consistent PP usage and has generated 6 points. His most common linemates are Kasper and Tarasenko

Dude hasn't earned shit.

Kakko's shitty attitude could be a product of the current culture in NY. It looks like the entire team has a shitty attitude at this point. You make a good point about Ras being a team guy, but if we trade him for KK and it fails, it's not a great loss. I'm willing to give Kakko a change of scenery to see what he can do.

I'm not going to lie though: a small part of me that views Ras as a reminder of Holland's draft failures is speaking. I'd be happy to dump him and Veleno to be rid of that bad juju.

The only thing destroying his value more than his mouth/attitude is his play. The shiny #2 luster of the draft is long behind him. Still the Rangers won't want table scraps like Rasmussen or Veleno. They are playing for the Cup.

Give them COPP!

I seem to believe his attitude has been an issue for longer than just this season, but I could be misremembering that.

And, yes, bringing a bad element into the locker room can have a lasting impact that goes far beyond the offending player and even last after that player is gone. I would not at all view "problem" players with a, "well, if it doesn't work out, oh well" attitude. To be clear, I'm not saying that Kakko is a known locker room cancer, but it's probably a situation the Wings would want to do their due diligence with and not just fly by the seat of their pants.
